Default So how about that Draisaitl contract eh?

Woah. Little bit higher average annual value than I was expecting.

He's really gotta run his own line to earn all that cash.

8.5 million for McDavids winger is really steep.

My 2 cents.

Lets go Oilers!

Depends on who you are getting, if your getting the guy who put up 77 pts in the regular season and 16 in the playoffs, its probably a bargain. If your getting the guy who put up 51 pts the year prior, I feel its massive over payment. Long story short, seems like alot based on one good year.

I know I wouldn't mind if they'd get rid of of three teams, chop 10 games off the schedule, and wrap the Cup Finals up in May.

McDavid and Draisatl now cost about the same as Toews and Kane, and I'd much rather have the former pair. Drai's flexibility at wing or center is a big factor. He can spread out the offense, as last year's playoffs showed, and he makes RNH expendable.

Would it have been better to get him for a million less? Sure, but they lock him up in his prime years, 22 to 30. Better that than paying some 30 year old 6 million a year for 6 or 8 years. Toews 8 year contract kicked in when he was 27, Kane just a few months younger. Those contracts have a lot of years on them where their skills will be declining. Let's not even talk about the money Shea Weber will be making as he approaches 40.

Hahaha 60 point players and 80 point players are not on the same pay scale. Roughly 60 points per player at 6.3 million a year and Leon at roughly 80 points at 8.5 million/ year.... I think his contract sounds pretty close, maybe a bit heavy..

At least we have a battle of Alberta again!! Looking forward to this season.

Draisaitl career .72 ppg
Monahan career .68 ppg
Gaudreau career .87 ppg

Based on this, the two Flames are bargains...or a little overpayment by chia.

Dont get me wrong, Leon is a great player but without mcsaviour he doesn't get 77 points. Even oilernation thinks he ups draisaitl's production by 25%.

Bit overpaid now. In 4 years the contract will look fair. Oilers should of played hardball and offered a 4 year bridge.

He's not an 75 plus point player without McDavid and shouldn't be paid for being one.

If we didn't pay him, someone else probably would have. Like all contracts, the GM is a savior if Draisaitl keeps pace the next few years or a bum if he drops production considerably. As an Oilers fan, I am glad to see him signed long term.

Couldn't agree more. It's way better to have a slow footed 29 year old getting paid $6million a year for the next 6 years.

Always loved this painting. Thought it was foreshadowing Nugent-Hopkins' departure, what with McDavid patting NH with his stick. Maybe change the title of painting from "Future is Bright" to "Bu-bye Ryan" or "Wasted Picks" or something else.

With the Oilers committing $38.5 Million to 5 players they're gonna have to find some bargain wingers for McDavid to play with. I like these two. Chiarelli should be able to sign 'em cheap.

Seriously though, I always thought that it would take $20+ million to sign these two. Chiarelli's got his work cut out for himself now.

Chiarelli just screwed another team. He did this in Boston. Now the Bruins will have to overpay to keep Pastranak. His numbers were better than Leons. Should be an interesting season.

The Oilers are paying McDavid and Draisatl the same as what the Flames are paying Gio, Hamilton, Brodie and Hamonic.

Hey, the Flames have Curtis Lazar and Freddie Hamilton signed for a combined $1.57 million a year. That's even MORE of a steal, isn't it? That's $19.5 million less than McDavid and Draisaitl!!!

Was that before or after Chiarelli and the Bruins won the cup, and were perennial playoff contenders for several years?

You need to do a little research. Pasternak had less points than Leon last year, and he's never scored more than 27 points in a NHL season before last year. His playoff ppg is less than half Leon's. Plus he's a winger, not a center, which is a more valuable position, plus he's smaller than Leon (over 30 lbs lighter). Leon can play center or wing, and even as McDavid's winger he often takes the faceoffs. There is NO area of the game where Pasternak is better than Leon. Ask every coach in the NHL which player they would take for 8 years at the same price? Would anyone take Pasternak?

That isn't entirely accurate. Leon had more assists, less PIM, more PPP, and more TOI and Pastrnak had more goals, shots, and hits. Fairly similar players though on basic stats last season. I doubt Pastrnak will be accepting the 6x6 offered by the Bruins though.

Odd, similar players, but Pastrnak getting $8.5M/season seems ridiculous.

Be honest, who would you rather have on your team, let alone anchoring it?
