Default Volunteers using weighted tennis balls against coyotes

I am unsure what to even say.

Is it still April 1st? Because that has all the hallmarks of a prank. Because people aren't really that stupid, are they?

Oh, wait.

As long as they are using noise makers anyway, maybe just a 12g with buckshot? Or if feelings are getting hurt, beanbags.

Weighted tennis balls, I don't feel scared anymore. Really?

Should be interesting when they decide to fight back. Won't take much when they have pups close.

Twisted, it depends on how heavy they are doesn’t it? A green fuzz covered ball of cement out of a water ballon launcher would have you ducking for sure lol.

Default volunteers & coyotes

It's kinda like "bringing a knife to a gunfight". I'm gonna root for the coyotes.

Well, I guess that would have a bearing on it. I'm not seeing volunteers doing that. But I might!

That’s the way I’d do it if my only choice was tennis balls lol

Red face

saw this on the news and the umbrella thing as you advance on the dreaded dangerous yote while tossing weighted tennis balls with ribbons on it....

Think about some of the asinine things the city has come up with in the past, of course they are that stupid. I am surprised that they didn't decide to add coyote lanes.

“I have had two aversive conditionings with coyotes and the first one being a trio and I was able to hit one successfully,” explained Roth. “It is anecdotal but ever since the last aversive condition I performed we haven’t seen any

That’s what I do with deer now instead of “hunting” them. I perform Aversive conditions on them. No more complaints from the anti hunting factions. I don’t use aggressive weighted tennis balls though I administer a small behaviour modifying pill from a distance.

Exclamation It's not limited to Edmonton

For a society that refuses to acknowledge the reality of expanding predator populations, or what to do about it, this is marginally better than their usual "Thoughts and Prayers" approach.
I'm surprised they aren't talking about closing off the walking paths to human encroachment in the coyotes traditional territory.

I hit one with a 3/8" ball bearing out of a slingshot, and the coyote ran off, and was following us again within minutes. Oddly enough, when I used a smaller piece of lead, that coyote never bothered us again. Unfortunately, the lead remedy isn't an option in city limits, where I do much of my running with the dog. But there is no reason that the city couldn't hire a professional to use a 22lr with quiet ammunition to solve the problem.

If that's not an April fools joke it must be just a joke from a fool or a yuppie green peace activist

Should be throwing hand grenades at coyotes, not tennis balls.

Multiple cases of them biting people. So toss a fuzzy ball at them. Isnt that how you teach dogs to fetch? Wonder if all these Bit people got their rabies shots? Just when you think humans cant get any stupider

Coyotes aren't stupid. They'll be buying up tennis raquets soon.

I look forward to reading about the first river valley jogger taken out with a crosscourt smash return.

Never underestimate a tennis ball in a potato gun mister.

Paintball guns and frozen paintballs if you want to get your non lethal message across to the yotes is my solution. In my hood and on the community FB page there are weekly urgent notices from the women who walk their dogs that they seen a yote

The next words typed, protect your kids and pets. Oh brother. If the city wants to educated the urban yote, they have to be a bit more aggressive than throwing tennis balls at them.

I'm just picturing one of those big pumpkin air cannons necked down to a tennis ball sized barrel. Tennis ball full of cement. I'd pay to see this take out a coyote in front of who ever came up with the tennis ball 'Plan'.

Can these folks be convinced throwing higher speed projectiles may be more effective?
