Default Cannot remove Marten from board

Hi to Fellow Trappers,

I am a newbie on this forum. I have skinned and boarded probably a thousand
Martens over the years. I finally did a no, no in haste forgot to put in a belly board for a Marten.
I tried placing in Freezer. no luck. I tried splitting the board, so taut no luck.
I wonder about soaking it in water. Anybody had success with this, any tips will help.
Cheers, Lloyd (Sammy)

Dampen a towel , wrap the marten with it and leave it just long enough to soften the hide and then re board.

SUCCESS. may have been a bit impatient, left it for 15 mins. only. Placed wood in vice and worked the edges hard twisting, etc. started at tail end, broke loose a bit, slowly worked towards the head. Much resistance at front leg area. Was able to get a hvy. plastic jiffy tyrap in there and work it around. Finally got it with min. damage.
Slight around belly as hide overdried and got a 2" tear. Will try and sow it.
Thanks again buddy, awesome help!!!

Jim Summit; 3 of us have a RTL in North East Manitoba, just south of Bissett.
Presently have 21 Martens. Starting to snare for wolves and Lynx.

Cheers, Sammy

I did the same on a muskrat! What I did was just left in on the board and eventually (2 weeks or so) it loosened on its own and I was able to take it off

X2. In the future...
Soften with damp cloth and slide a belly board in to sort of 'stretch' the pelt a bit first. Then it will come off of the board easier.

Default Manitoba Geography

South-East Manitoba is South of No. 1 Trans Canada Highway. eg. Steinback and Sprague.
Our line is 3 Hr. North of Trans Canada, 10 mi. South of Bissett. Right on the Ont. Border. We have 220 Sq. Miles. Pre Cambrian shield and swamps ie lots of rock ridges.
Now, the reason for our area being called North East is Bissett is the furthest
North of the Easterly towns. Nothing Up the Ont. Border North of Bissett.
A couple small reserves only.
Thompson is Central North and Churchill North.

Hope this helps.

Just picked up 8 more Martens, skinning day tomorrow.

Sammy
