Default Federal Fusion on elk/moose

Looking for experience with the Federal Fusion 180 grain from the 30.06, but welcome all information.

Thanks

It’s a 180 leaving the muzzle below 2800 FPS. As will most every other 180 out there. The caveat is how do they shoot outta your rifle?

It’ll work just fine, if you do your part.

I shot two cow elk using Fusions out of my 270, the first was a 130gr and the second was a 150gr. Both shoot well out of my Tikka T3 Featherlite with the 150's grouping slightly better. I recovered one bullet (the 130gr shot from aprox 100m) and weight retention was 86% after punching through one rib a little on the high side through the tops of both lungs and another rib before sticking in the hide on the far side. I find they perform really well on everything I've shot with them. The plus side being that they are relatively inexpensive so I don't hesitate to shoot hem lots(2-3 boxes per year) which in turn means you're more likely to put the bullet in the right place.

Bingo. Only took half a box for me to determine no good.

Shot an Eland with them in a 300 win Mag. 180 gr. Worked like a charm and perfect mushroom when recovered. Good Penetration as well. If you ever have seen the size of an Eland you would be sold on those bullets.

Default Bullets

Three moose an seven bull elk with .270 130 grain an dozens of deer
In the federal fusion. One moose an a few elk with a .300wsm in a 180 grain
Most of the bullets were recovered just under the skin on the oppisit side. They are all my family have used in the last dosen years or so.

They will work just fine,

So will Federal blue box, Winchester superX, Remington core Loct and about any other 150 or 180 grn bullet from a 30-06,,,

As long as the bullet hits a vital spot,

Placement is key

5 years ago I had three that didn’t expand on a moose. Thought I kept missing but the bull had 3 clean holes right through him. Never found the lead.

I have used Federal Fusion on both Elk and Moose. Moose was at about 50 yards, 30-06 in 180 grain. Moose dropped like a sheet of plywood on the spot.
Elk was shot with 7mm Rem Mag in 175 grain at about 10 yards. The 7mm Rem Mag bullet reacted like a hand grenade and I believe I was lucky to recovered the Elk at about 100 yards. Both shots were broadside lung shots with no shoulder hit.

I think the Fusion was not designed for as 10 yard hit with 7mm Rem Mag velocities.
