Default Shotgun ammo

Hey everyone. I am just curiouse about what would be the best for skeet and trap shooting as far as shells. Currently I have some 12ga 8 shot, 1 1/8oz
2 3/4". Im new to the shotgun division... I have a Savage Sportsman 296 model E. Pump action 3" chamber. Now is it alright to be using 2 3/4" shells? And I know not to use this gun with steel shot...right? So lead only I have been told as it is an older gun... Iv been having a problem with the gun jamming after firing a shell and go to load another and the pump will not pump unless i fiddle with the little lever and wiggle the pump until finally it will release... Im sorry if that makes no sence but I don't know how to explain it. Any info would be great. Thanks

2 3/4 inch are fine 7.5 or 8 shot size usually. Some cheapo shells will jam in my Rem as well. just try a few different kinds until you find what your likes.
