NEW long range target & stand
I have been working on a project for a couple months now to make/get some nice long range targets.
The target itself is Ar500 steel 3/8" thick from a fellow out of the states. He cuts them with a water jet and they are excellent quality.
The stand is scrap 1" square tube scrounged off a buddies farm. I did the engineering, grinding and paint. He did all of the welding.
The whole setup breaks down into 4 pieces for easy transport and storage. The two "A" frames come appart from the top rail and the chains disconnect from the top rail to remove the target.
What do you think?
How can I improve the stand?
And my long range shooter!

would black paint where the white is show the impacts at distance easier...no spotting scope needed, i've only shot black steel so i don't know how it would show on white but suspect not as well...otherwise looks like a great target to me...i made two, one is a 15" circle and other is 15" high rectangle about 20" wide when shooting further and in the wind but so far when i've taken the little 15" circle out i've hit it every time to 600 but plan on doing some 800 yrd shooting before season starts so will probably run the 20" wide one just to stay on steel when i get the wind off a bit

The white seems to show the bullet splash quite well...
Having said that. I have shot steel painted black, and I think that the impact is a bit easier to see on the black.
The target is 9"X15" and was really only intended for closer distances. I ended up shooting it out to 700m last weekend and it worked great... Or maybe it was the rifle that worked great. I think that for 700m and beyond a larger target would be more desirable. Say 12"X24" out to 1000m?

To improve on it? Not much.
I would draw a scale on the target vert/horiz like a reticle in the diamond with +/- inches from dead center.
Just in case you bump your optics a bit and need a 1/4 click here or there to bring it back to dead zero.

An idea I use to spot hits at long range: have very rusty target plate and paint it with latex paint in white (or yellow, or other light color)....paint doesn't adhere well, and clearly shows a a black "hole" when hit.....
