Default bringing a pellet gun across border

I am planning on purchasing a pellet gun in the US and want to bring it into Canada. I asked a Canadian Customs Officer last wkd what all paper work needed to be done and he said all I needed was my PAL.
Has anyone done this? Is it true. I don't want to get hung up at the border if I am required to have more info on me. It will be over 495fps also.
Thanks for any info.

Cheers,
SS

if its over 495fps its no longer considered a pellet gun.it is a firearm. I believe u need an export permit from where u purchase it. search the forum because previous threads indicate that importing a firearm from the usa is not an easy thing to do.

In the USA air rifles are not considered firearms, so they don't require the export permit.

Well I finally got through to someone in Ontario in the Govt. He told me that if its over 500fps, I will require a PAL to bring it back. No Export Permit is required from the US as Air Rifles are not required and no Import Permit is required in Canada. This is what the border guard told me as well so I hope to hell they are telling me the truth.
I also called Prophet River but I was told I would have to Export/Import it etc but am also waiting on a call back for clarification.

Fingers crossed.

Update: Clay from Prophet River just called and confirmed what I have been told.
So hopefully I'm coming next week with a new pellet gun from the US.
For those wondering, its the Gamo Swarm Maxxim IGT with the 10 shot magazine in .22 cal.
Nothing expensive but the 10 shot magazine is something new to the pellet gun world and hopefully it shoots accurate and gives my son and I hours of enjoyment.

\Thanks for all the replies, hopefully someone else can use this info if they are looking at bringing in a Pellet Gun from the US.

cheers,
SS

That's not exactly a "pellet gun", it is the equivalent of a 22LR loaded with subsonic ammunition. Don't plan to shoot it like a 450fps pellet gun.
Looks good though.
From the Gamo website:
MECHANISM
-Velocity: 975 feet per second (fps) with PBA Platinum
-10X Quick- Shot technology enables you to shoot up to ten pellets without reloading
-Inert Gas Technology (IGT)
-Break Barrel: Single Cocking System
-Automatic Cocking Safety system
-Barrel: Fluted Polymer Jacketed Steel with WHISPER MAXXIM Technology
-Cocking Effort: 32 lbs
-Trigger: Two stage adjustable CAT (Custom Action Trigger)
-Manual Safety

LOL, it actually is a Pellet gun, just happens to be in .22 cal and shoots a little quicker than the old Daisy BB guns. I really like the ability of loading 10 pellets in a magazine as picking pellets out of the tin cans with fat fingers isn't a lot of fun. I think I drop as many as I pick up.

I’m with you guys. That barrel shroud that provides the sound reduction is a no no. I’d dearly love one for my .22 cal air rifle and they are available for use - south of the border. Not a big deal but no way, no how was it an option.

OP, you may get lucky at the border but my money is on that shroud being removed and retained for safe keeping before you’re allowed to continue your travels in possession of the rifle.

Yup and Watch out for your folders that can be opened with one hand too.....simply too much for our country to handle all,at one border crossing.

Are suppressors legal on pellet guns? I've seen quite a few for sale never really thought about it.

That amazon page for the swarm states they are not available.
Perhaps the OP can check to see if he can bring one in without the shroud

I tried to purchase one of those, and ya, the shroud is the problem. It won't make it across the border.

I guess you could remove the shroud, and try, so good luck! Let us know how it goes.

Unless you are getting the high fps model, no issue. That's not a suppressor, its a tin cover that doesn't even do anything but look cute.

One air rifle I bought has the capability for a suppressor - for sale in Canada, the baffling is removed.

"The Swarm Maxxim barrel has integrated Whisper Maxxim sound suppression technology, keeping shooting noise to the minimum."
Mr. Dave, the RC's and the border guys may see it differently.

No suppressors are legal, but Gamo Silent Stalker Air Rifle is/was legal to purchase from Cabelas in Canada. 1200fps. I find it very quite for the target plinking

I bought a Benjamin NP XL 1100 from SSSO out of BC, (not sure if they're still in business) that unit has the integrated suppressor, this was back during the long gun registry too, as it's considered a firearm (1100 fps). With no issues, barrel looks much the same as the one the OP wants.
