Blue green algae is an algae that forms in many shallow slow moving or still lakes.
Many of these lakes have a blue green algae bloom every summer because of their make up. You can still fish them and there has been no evidence to prove you shouldn't eat the fish although for precautionary reasons some people will tell you that.
You shouldn't swim in and definitely shouldn't consume water with blue green algae though as it can potentially be toxic.
