Default Grayling Safari! *Pic Heavy*

First off... I caught my first Grayling! Finally! First time I went for Grayling a few years ago I fought 40km winds with just my fly rod... rookie mistake :P. This time I went with spinners just in case but barely pulled the spincaster out... they wanted the dry .

Last weekend Curtis, Remo, and I loaded up the Safari van and set off to the northern logging roads for four nights. It was exactly what I needed! No cell service, no game plan, no civilization. Just rods, good friends, hundreds of rivers, and a trusty rusty ol van . Every day we hit new rivers and every night was a different "squatting spot" on the banks.

My two friends were doing well catching Grayling with spinners and spoons. Neither had caught a fish on their fly rods before this weekend but they did bring them. It wasn't until I hooked into my first Grayling on a dry fly that they gained a little confidence on the technique and the second night we found a nice deep slow drift with lots of casting room and Bang On! They both were hooking into fish! All top water. I think I only caught one on a wet fly the whole weekend. It was awesome seeing the excitement a new fly fisherman gets when they land their first one .

The last evening we decided to hit Obed and take the boats out. One of the hardest lakes I've ever fished! It took me forever to row out to a drop off and once I was there I couldn't figure out how I wanted to fish it… So I jumped in and went swimming instead lol. Anyways, the guys got into a few perch and I somehow managed to get a sucker trolling a crank lol. Ah well… the sunsets were spectacular anyways .

Here are some pictures from the weekend.

First Grayling 

Fisher Grrl:

Great pics and your stories are always so well told.
Your previous trip report to the coast made me think I was there as I read it.
Really want to fish the coast with the wife, you just add more fuel to the fire.

another great trip Amber .. Karma to you for the teaching .. put a bead head on and go down for the Rocky Mountain Whitefish in those holes or even sinking tip.. on Obed its hard fishing for the Browns as in x fish per hours

its almost time for you to start writing for a magazine or video for TV to give a Lady's perspective

thanks for sharing

Great Pics!
I do the same thing every year with an old high school buddy, headed out in 2 weeks to great slave lake and area for 7 days of freedom. I think its the best way to fish, no plan just go, and fish every single spot of water found!!

Congrats on your first grayling on what looked like a great road trip.

My first grayling was caught out of the Little Smoky using a spinning rod. Beautiful fish.

Well done! Grayling are very pretty fish and very fun to catch. Another great story. If more threads were done like this, it would be very enjoyable reading for everyone. Keep up the good work! GN.
