Default PCR pike

I'm gonna go target them today.

spinnerbaits, large swim baits, and maybe some big smelts or herring if the gas station in nanton has some. I'll be trying from shore.

I've tried the big bait thing.

6" smelts and mackerel.

Still get walleye.

I'd go with BIG cranks or spoons at a slightly ridiculous pace.

Couldn't believe I was getting 16" walleye on 12" mackerel in 50 fow.

Walleye are always good there.

To the OP, the store in Nanton no longer sells bait.

A couple summers ago we had a very large pike snatching walleye as we brought them into shore... There was 6 of us and the walleye were biting every cast so the big girl had lots of targets. Finally a buddy decided to throw out a large swimbait and bounced it back as if was a wounded walleye... Fish On! Was a gorgeous 15+ lber and she went back to make more fisherman happy.

since when?? I bought bait at the esso last week...

i know the general store on the south end (whatever it's called) also used to sell but haven't been there since last year.

Duster, yes they have. small minnows or chunks of minnow on a 1/4 oz jig on the bottom. look for the white toyota truck with the gray tonneau cover, I'll be in a red bass pro hat with a blonde girl or two (seriously, it's my girlfriend and her sister)

Pretty sure someone using 12 inch bait is not targetting 14 inch walleye.

Didn't end up gunning for pike, just caught the usual bazillion and one walleye off the dock. I did make a few interesting findings though:

1) the power bait minnows you buy in the bucket of goo really do work as well as frozen minnows

2) I dropped my aqua vu off the dock and saw a ton of walleye right there (even between the dock and shore), several beer cans, and 2 lawn chairs.
