Default Little Smoky River

Well, just got back yesterday from a 2 day trip on the river. I have never gone this early and with the rain this year, the river was higher than usual. We caught about 60 Grayling and a couple nice Bulls. A great weekend nonetheless but not the 100's one usually catches there. I went to my special spot and never did see the 2nd bridge. But the water at the 1st bridge was quite high. I figure a couple more weeks and it will be prime time.

Thanks for the post! Was wondering how the water conditions were and also the fishing. I've been going annually for the past 4-5 years and every year seems to be getting a little worse and worse for numbers and size of grayling. 4-5 years ago we didn't have to wade more than 20 yards of the second bridge to have 100 plus grayling to hand in one day. Now I find fishing upstream of the bridge I actually do better. Never yet caught a bull trout out of there though.

Never caught a grayling, fished the little smokey river last year no luck. Where are these bridges you talk about? What do you use?

My spot is quite a bit upstream and unbelievable! Caught over 400 fish in 3 days last year and close to that the year before. Found my new spot by fluke in exploring various resource roads. I won't fish the bridges anymore, too popular. I remember one weekend the Calgary chapter of Trouts Unlimited was there and that was enough for me.
And yes, the River will be on fire in another couple weeks....I should have waited.
"rednk" the bridges are west of Fox Creek on the Amoco-Bigstone resource road......access it just about 1 mile North of Fox Creek

With the recent cooler weather, I suspect they will be getting to their wintering spots....any deep pools and if flyfishing; streamers or even beadheads. If spinning; can't go wrong with Panther Martins

depends on where you fish on the river. if you stick to the bridges, most are going to be in the 8 - 12" size range with the odd 14 - 16" one to be caught.

if you do a little hiking and exploring of different parts of the river, you will consistently get into more fish in the 14 - 16" with some larger fish up to about 18" and maybe the very odd 20" if lucky.

there are lots of bigger fish in there, just have to explore to find where they are hiding.

it is a very long river with few easy access points so they are there, just have to find them.

Yeah i drove down that bigstone road stopped at the bridges, never been there before just thought id try it, and this was about aug 22ish.. i fished on both sides of the bridge and noo luck, i walked as far as i could on the left side of the bridge up until that little bay of calm water, and then i went all the way down the river as far as i could by foot on the campsite side of the bridge, and even walked to the island in the middle and no luck anywheres, i walked it up and down twice that day.. but ya on the campside side of the bridge i would of made it maybe 1km down stream, then that was it.. Nice to hear you guys have some luck then.. atleast i know theres fish around there now..
