I have a finnlight in 2506, its decked about 50 deer, between myself and a mate who borrowed it in NZ for a couple years, great deer round, every deer I have shot with it have crumpled straight down,
I favour the 110gr accubond,

They don't sell that bullet any longer. But it was a good one.
I would personally do a 260 Rem, best of both in a short action

257 roberts
I purchased a 257 Roberts for my sons first rifle in a the new kimber 84 hunter model. It's a beautiful light rifle. I would recommend taking a look and handling one before making your final decision.

I'll be using it most likely just for plinking but no doubt it'll be on a few hunting trips as well, mostly just for deer and yotes, maybe an elk if one pops out. Ive had a 257wby before, never hunted with it though.
Right now I'm leaning towards the 25-06, my only reservation is that I've got all the reloading gear for a 243, but I'm only a set of dies and some lead away from being set up for the 25-06

A pistol grip BLR in 243 would look good on you!

25-06 AI. A 115 Berger at 3300 fps is good deer medicine. Brass lasts for a long time and will run almost as fast as a 257 Weatherby. Mine likes H1000.

if you already have a 243 I would go to a 25-06 as many have recommended. A few years ago I bought a 243 for the kids to grow into. Wish now that maybe I had bought a 25-06 instead.

I ordered the 25-06 today, looking forward to playing around with this gun. Going to have to go pick up a few boxes of ammo I guess.

Field fails had nothing to do with the caliber

What did you end up getting it chambered in?

I ordered a Forbes 24b 25-06 from Clay, I really like the handling characteristics of my Nula so I figured I'd try out the Forbes, I mean buy a Forbes for my Wife to try out
The picture he had on his website had the stainless barrel but he said the actual barrel is ceracoted to match the action. I like the stainless look so I'm going to have to find someone who can remove the ceracoting from the barrel.

they do when the shots are identical to same shots in the same place in the same field over 20 years compared to 243 /. 6.5x55 /. 270/ 308 / 30-06 / 300 weatherby / 9.3x62 in the same place in the same field by 5 different guys / witnesses who all concurred - not scientific but interesting comparable to over 90+ deer ... as an aside the weatherby did not kill them any deader than the rest , but the 9.3 is lights out... we all started with 30-06's and churned the other calibers over the years.. the guys with the 25-06's primarily hunt the foothills and they seldom join the rest of us in the prairie

My son killed his first whitetail buck at 400yds shooting 100gr federal blue box ammo. The deer made it maybe 40yds before dropping dead. Shot placement and bullet expansion will kill whatever you shoot. You don't need a magnum rifle or 30cals to kill any animal on the North American continent, just a good bullet in the right place.

Update!
Here it is, Forbes model 24b 25-06 topped with a Swarovski Z3 3-10x42 with the BRH reticle. I can't wait to test this thing out. Thanks for the advise guys, I'm glad I went with the 25-06.
I'd like to give a big thanks to Clay at Prophet River who, as usual went above and beyond for me on this deal.
I'd also like to pass a big thanks to moose knuckle for the box of 100gr Chachinga bullets he gave me that DaleJ makes, they'll be my first test load.

Grasshopper you still have much to learn, but walk the right path. We still "need" to hunt, it provides nourishment for the soul
PS, nice piece of kit!!

Last gun my wife shot was my webley tempest .177 cal hand gun pellet gun, that was about 15yrs ago. To tell you the truth I'm not sure how I convinced her she needed a rifle, but I think my oldest boy helped me out on this one.
She still don't want to kill anything so I think I'll be able to borrow it during hunting season

Was pretty cocky with my 243 for a lot of years. Deer would drop like they were stuck by lightning. One day had a true tank of a whitey buck at 100 yards broadside, hit him hard right where I was aiming. I was suprised that he ran off at all, followed up and found him laying down in a slough bottom. Shoulda waited but jumped him and missed the only shot I had. No biggie I thought, got on his trail he laid down, sealed his wound up and got back on the does! Two days later a "friend" got him. 181 typical. Bought a 30-06 and a box of 180 grain the next day and i'll never go back...still haunts me.
