Default Winchester Supreme E-TIP

I just sighted my rifle in with the winchester supreme e-tip in a 180 gr for my 300 win mag and it is great on paper but i was looking for some opinions on how this bullet acts in the field. I hunt deer - moose size game and was thinking maybe the 180 is a little much because i have usually used a 150 on game in the past just lookin for opinions! Thanks alot.

Check this link out:

This won't tell you total penetration but it at least should give you a good relative comparison.

I haven't used it so can't comment on performance, but in a 300mag I'd go with the 180 over the 150. Call me old school

I've used the 150 E-Tip, from a 300, 308 and 30 TC. Worked very well. I just shot some Supremes from my 7 short and they group very well. Might have to kill something with them this year.

180gr is the bullet weight of choice for the 300WM / 300WSM IMO. I have had a 300WM for 20 years+ now - never shot anything less tha 180gr. Been reloading for 6-7 years now. If you are going to use lighter bullets, go with a smaller caliber. I'm very impressed with the 270WSM with 140gr Accubonds on big game.

I never used the E-tips but had always used Winchester Supreme factory ammo previously - 180gr Failsafes, then the PArtition Golds and in 2004 the Accubonds. I reload with the Accubonds. Great bullet for deer/elk/moose/bears.

IMO, if the E-tips group good in your rifle...stick with them, try them out hunting and see how they perform. Next choice I will suggest would be the Accubonds and then the XP3's in WS factory ammo. In Federal ammo I would try the 180gr TTSX's. The E-tips should be just as good. Another good forum site to go on is Nosler's NOSLER. Lots of feedback about the Etips compared to the Barnes TTSX's / TSX's.

Have fun.

If you buy a well constructed bullet like you have. Just find a and stick with the Bullet weight that shoots best in your rifle. Trust me a moose or deer wont be able to tell the 30 gr difference. Ive shot deer and yotes with 180 gr accubonds put them down just fine. I pick my Bullet weight based on my twist rate of my rifle.

You most certainly don't need a 180gr bullet in any 300magnum,but in this case.it should perform well for you.I would feel comfortable using any bonded or all copper bullet from 150gr on up on deer, and from 165gr and up on elk or moose.
