Help With Burnstick
Heading to Burnstick for the first time with my 5 year old daughter that loves to fish. Can anyone let me know where to access the lake and what to use for hooks/bait. Can we drive on with the truck or should a guy bring a snowmobile? We saw nothing today at Ghost Lake and I would like her to get into a few perch if we are lucky enough. Heading out from cochrane area. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks.

You can access the lake from the village side, there is a boat launch that you can drive onto the lake from(if the ice is safe for that). anywhere about a 100m from shore should be fine for drilling a hole.
I have found maggots seem to work best for me there. Don't expect to be taking very many home though, you'll catch numbers but they aren't very big.

Yep you shouldn't have trouble finding perch! X2 about maggots. I would think 10-20FOW you'll find them.
Not sure about driving on that ice we almost broke through one year. Be safe!

Thanks. Had a great time there with my daughter. 10" of ice and 6" of snow. I would like to post a pic of how excited she was to catch her first little perch. How can I do this?

I used dew worms in 35-40FOW with a marmish rod and one of my own hooks.
As a result - over 150 perch but only 5 were in 10-11 inch range.

35-40 feet of water, I would imagine that at least half of those 150 fish did not live. Fish caught at that depth can not recover due to barotrauma. I would say to be safe 20 feet or less and you should not have a problem.

I was not being a smart A** if you are referring to me, I did not disrespect you and stated some facts as well as some friendly advise.
I also did not assume because you clearly stated you were fishing in 35-40 feet of water and did not mention you fished a few different spots or depths.
I will make an assumption to say I find it hard to believe that the 5 biggest fish that you kept all came from that depth and there were no other ones caught from that deep.

yes, I fished in several spots....stared drilling close to the shore line and spent most of the day at 5m depth, but got bored with small perch and moved dipper looking for some pike, but instead (you would not beleave) run into large perch......all 5 were cought one after one, in about 10 minutes at 12m depth..... I used a large marmish hook and you can see it in the picture....
