Marie Lake and Sylvan report
Covered some territory this weekend
Braved sub -30 temps in NB1 and fished Marie on Saturday. Only burbot that showed itself took the hook:
Got out of dodge on Sunday to escape the cold and fished Sylvan for the last half hour of the day. Good part is the bite was on and quickly landed 4 whites in just under 30 minutes:
Cheers!

The larger one, zero. The smaller one, one side only and it had to be thrown out.

Burbot is one of the best tasting fish, don't let the looks fool ya...
Peel skin back, fillet it, cut in cubes boil in saltwater dip in melted butter..
Poor mans lobster.

Amazing fish, firm, white meat, really hard to beat. I can hardly get the cubes out of water because the kids are already dipping in the water pot!!

yah, I think most people make a light, shallow, cut or incision around the back of the head and all the way around the burb as to release the skin completely from the head. Take a pair of pliers, get a good grip on a chunk of skin from behind the head, and peel the skin completely off as if it were a sock peeled off your foot. It works good if you can nail the head down and then you have a free hand to help work the skin off. Filet off the back straps which is about all there is edible on them I think and then cube it up and cook. Some butter and your fave seasoning and then enjoy

Congrat's Snap & about time I seen some pic's of some Sylvan Whites ....
Only fish I seen out here are gold in color, in the water hazards on the golf course, they look just like the one's you had when you were a kid, but bigger, they also like eating my golf balls!
