It looks like a smaller river then I hunt but otherwise very familure.

I miss those hunts. Can't do it any more. So thanks very much for sharing your hunt.

That's what hunting is supposed to be. One on one with nature.

Unfortunatly I have to rely on machanical means to get to where I hunt so reading your story was as close as I can get to hunting the way I wish I could.

I count myself fortunate to have spent many years hunting like that in country very much like that.

Thanks Keg, I'm not terribly old, but I'm feeling the early onset of arthritis in most of my joints, my spine is in none to good of shape any more, and having been a welder for much of my adult life I perpetually have fluid in my lungs that I cant seem to cough up, though I always feel as if I need to cough.

It doesn't prevent me from hunting "My Way" just yet, but I can see the end on the horizon, I really doubt I have 10 more years of this, quite possibly only half of that. On this trip, it went through my mind quite a bit... "If you've only got 5 more good seasons left how do you want to spend them?" Thoughts of expensive trips to far off locations, to hunt bigger and better animals etc.. Long before I'd killed that bull however, I came to the rather pleasant conclusion that whatever hunting seasons my body has left, for me there's really no better way to spend them than exactly as I always have. Canoeing wild rivers, hunting tall ridges, and enjoying that big empty boreal silence... it just doesn't get any better than that.

PS, one of these days I'll get around to hunting Your River. Been on my to do list for quite some time.

It was a thrill reading about your hunt, and motivating as well! I drew a moose tag this year and it may turn out to be a solo hunt, so it was awesome to hear about your success and the adventure! Well done, you can sure be proud of that!

You have an excellent writing style- take Red Bullets’ advice to heart! Making a book is pretty easy nowadays. There are online services that let you self-publish. It is not necessarily cheap, but it would make for a great family memento.

I know three people who have books published. Two are self published the third I'm not sure about.
One is my youngest daughter, she has three works of fiction in local book stores. The other two write non fiction.

None have a lot of money so it can be done without mortgaging the house.

One of those authors write books that may be of interest to AO members.

For example, she wrote about her experiences piloting the York boat that ran from Dunvegan to Fort Vermilion for several years.

My wife has told me I must do this, but she also wants me to record all the animals we've kept the racks off of as well as the more elaborate stories, and then label the racks as to which story they belong to. Sort of like a running family record book, and in a few years hopefully our daughters will take pride in making their own contributions to the book.

Sounds like a cool winter project to me, particularly sorting through the old rack pile which is always a nice trip down memory lane.

On a side note, I dug a very nicely mushroomed 180 grain Corelok out of that moose's offside shoulder and gave it to my youngest... who told me that she plans to take it to school for show and tell LOL.
