Default Losing Hunting Privileges and Draw Priorities

Wondering on another thread but when a licence is suspended in Alberta does the individual's hunting draw priority get erased as well?

I cant say for sure but I would imagine they still keep priority. I would bet under the old system they could still increase their priority by 999'ing since your not actually purchasing a license. Now that you need the wildlife certificate to enter a draw I don't think that would be possible.

Although I don't have first hand experience with this as far as I understand the priority an individual would have would not be erased but you can not apply for draws while under suspension so you can't increase priority while suspended.. Even under the old system you still needed your WIN number to enter 999 for priority.

My understanding is you lose your priority points also. No I’ve never lost my hunting privileges.

I sent in an email this morning asking this question. I will post later if I get a reply.

Here is the answer I got. They only seemed to address one of the questions though.

Thank you for visiting the Alberta Government feedback web site. Following is the response to your question prepared by Justice and Solicitor General :

Thank you for using Alberta Connects.

If an individual has a recreational licence suspension as a result of a conviction, they will not be eligible to apply for any draws during that period. The individual’s existing priority will not be affected.

If you have additional questions, please contact your local fish and wildlife office: https://www.alberta.ca/fish-and-wildlife-contacts.aspx

We hope this information is helpful.

Hello,
the recent court case against Phil Cahoon has posed the the following questions on a hunting based forum as to whether or not a license suspension or conviction of a hunting offense will have any effect on a person's status under the draw system? Does the person loose any previously gained priority points? Under the old system where a person could enter the draws for priority only or draw code 999 without purchasing a license would they be able to increase their priority while still under suspension?
Thanks for any response on this matter.

I would say they answered both of your questions!
No they can’t apply.
No it doesn’t effect their existing priorities

My mistake, sorry guys. I must have misunderstood the guy I was talking to when he lost his license.
