Default Couple questions: 1912 Savage Model 99 - 22 High Power

My F-I-L just found this gun that belonged to his father. Visually, it looks in really good shape. Just thought I'd put it up here for those that know much more about guns than I do.

1. How difficult is it to souce 22 High Power shells?

2. Assuming the gun is in moderate to good shape, anyone care to guess approximate value?

Thanks

I'm just going from memory and its been a long time so double check what I say. I think you form them from 30/30 brass. I think the bore should be slugged because might not be a standard 223 bullet.
Nice little saddle gun for varmints

My grandfather took his first deer with a 22 Savage Hi-Power and always spoke fondly of both the rifle and the cartridge. As such I've always seemed to have a bit of a soft spot for it myself.

S&B still loads it as 5.6x52R. It's readily available online.

Yes the bullet diameter is 228. If I remember correctly Hornady used to make bullets. . Not sure if they still do .

Default They

were discontinued.S+B sold loose bullets but have't seen them in a few years. The Hornady bullets were too long in the ogive and tipped. The originals were more of a round nose. Many guns will shoot .224 dia just fine . Remove the expander button when sizing brass and they will grip the smaller bullets .IMR 3031 is a suitable powder.
