Default Alberta Backroads Maps reviews?

Has anyone bought the Alberta Backroads electronic chip maps for your GPS? I am contemplating picking it up but as its pricey would like to hear from others who may have bought it for their hand held units.

I bought the Western Canada chip for my Rhino 650 las year and I am very happy with it. Much better than the topo downloads through Garmin. In addition, it has hydrographic maps form most lakes and rivers, but not all. Note that it is not necessary to purchase annual updates, but BRMB will try to convince you you need it.

They have pretty good deals on updates, but you're right they make little difference most of the time. Use these maps for many years now.

I have the Backroads Saskatchewan maps in my Garmin Montana a lot more detail than any others I've tried like Etopo, mapsource. The feature I like the most is the gravel roads, on most map programs you need to zoom in so close for the roads to show up you get a small map a can't see far around you. The maps have LSD grid locations and a lot of detail abandoned railways and water depth in most lakes. The updates are really only relevant to changes in the manmade structures the hills and valley's etc. never change.

All I can say is that their print version and my compass have never let me down.
But then I got my first ever cell phone last year...I'm 60 and hate the thing
