Default Ranges opps on here I guess I should say STOVES

Looking to replace the stove at one of our rental units

Glasstops are coming down to be almost same price as coils .

So considering a glass top, as they are more modern/ current, whereas to me a coil , even a brand new one , seems kind of old fashion .

But saying that , I have concerns about possible damage to a glass top vs coil .

And the cost to repair .

In having rentals for over 40 years , we've had very few repairs on the stoves , and most of those were just a coil or element replacement etc.

Anybody out there in the business , that can shed some light on this ?

Thanks

Glasstops are a pain in the arse imo. constant cleaning and if the wrong chems or applicators are used they'll scratch and that an expensive fix.

When we renovated our kitchen and put in gas it was the best thought we had. I realize that's probably not an option for your rentals but a raised burner is the least problematic.

Just don't go white with appliances. Unless your cooking dinosaur meat. Black and SS add class.

Agree with the above....Had one in our house for a few yrs now and wouldn't get another. No problems with it but as said, if you don't use the right products and procedures you'll wreck the finish and if it's a dark color impossible to keep clean.

For rentals I go with function, not fashion. It just has to work. Easy to change out a burner too. As far as reliability, I've have had more problems with fridges than I've ever had with stoves.

Worst thing to keep clean ever! Definitely wouldn’t recommended for a rental.

What he says, and if for some reason sugar is boiled over on it it will etch the glass

I rent a condo, have a glass top. Hate isn't a strong enough word for it.

Prefer to have a natgas, but coil would be better than glass top.

A friend knocked a pepper shaker out of his cupboard, broke the glass top. I don't store anything heavy in the cupboards around the stove.

Didn't know about the sugar but sodium metasilicate will also etch glass. And yet so many folks are happy to just spray away at the carwash or on their driveways with degreasers/presoaks/detergents containing it.

I have a white glass top and it is a bear to keep clean. My next one would be a black one.

I think you said it yourself, the only problems you had was to replace a coil or two,, pretty simple repair,, unless its under glass

I purchased 18 coil ranges for the housing coop 3 years ago.
Evenly split between white and black.
Was hard to find any coil units , but was hooked up by Mabe.
Negotiated extra burners and elements into the package for repairs down the road

Many complaints from the units that went black as they look filthy after each cook.
Glass tops limit what pans could be used-so renters may complain and demand you provide proper pans and pots.

I went coil for a reason
