Lyman Muzzleloaders
I've been looking for a Lyman Deerstalker for quite some time now. Does anyone carry them in Canada? If any of you own one, how do you like it? I love the traditional authentic looking style of muzzleloader, and i know the pros of a percussion probably outweight the cons of flintlock. I like the idea of using a flintlock, but is it very practical in normal hunting conditions? Thanks for the input guys.

Try Hillfolk Musket Supplies or LeBaron or Ellwood Epps.
Google search them and you should find what youre looking for.
Hillfolk are in Sask. they dont have a website, better to call them.
Doug and Beckey Middleton. 306-228-2949. Great people and happy to recommend them.
I ordered my Lyman GPR .54 kit with slow twist thru them.

The Lyman ML's are actually Investarm guns from Italy. Good ones at that. Often they are also stamped as Safari Arms, and Churchil Arms ,, Charles Daly and probably a few more .
I prefer a flinter, as long as you can get real flints they go off just as fast as a cap lock.
I took the Deerstalker stock off my 54 flinter and mounted the gun in a Hawken style stock . I like the Deerstalker 25" short barrel and the Hawken style stocks look a bit more traditional.

Pete,
Funny you mention your preference of flinter. I’m actually looking to see about ordering an L&R lock from Track of the Wolf for my TC Hawken with .58 Green Mountain barrel.

I have never had a problem with the TC locks, or the Investarm locks other than 1 soft frizzen that I replaced. The L&R RPL lock I got was a total pain, and not 1 bit better than the factory locks. The sear was so long it needed to be shortened also.
I found most fail to spark issues were caused by flint position, an oily, dirty frizzen, and cut stone instead of real flints.

The TC is percussion. I’d be converting it to flintlock. I have an L&R on my Pedersoli Frontier that was percussion.
Nay a problem with that one.

Umm... I unscrew the percussion powder drum and screw in a 1/4x28 vent touch hole liner.
No reason at all to remove breech plug...

Crap its (TC) one piece isn’t it. I’m sitting here at a Macy’s in NYC trying to picture everything. My Pedersoli was a simple undertaking.
Mr Ethan Riplinger at TOTW failed to mention the hooked breech.
I guess it remains as a percussion cap. Good thing i have a thousand or so “Top Hats”.
