Sympathey for lefty's
I never realy thought about it much until my Grand daughter decided she wanted to hunt. You lefty's have it hard.
What a pain to find a left hand youth size gun or even a left hand wood stocked gun that can have the stock shortened.
It compounds the matter because I don't like plastic and sand blasted steel, and am on a budget. I don't completely rule out plastic, but it is not my first choice at all. When I do find something on a manufacturers site that is a candidate , it is rarely available anywhere in Canada.
The search continues for a decent left hand rifle and shotgun.
The right handed grandchildren have it made , setting them up to hunt is a breeze.

Ruger M77 Hawkeye. Prophet River brings in lots of models. Left handed or right, compact or full size, wood or plastic, stainless or blued.

Shooting left hand has had one benefit for me: I have been able to keep my rifle collection in two safes! Lord knows how many I would have otherwise.
I would give a kidney for a Kimber mountain ascent leftie.
I share your pain. It has taken me 40 years to put together a battery of decent LH bolt guns. Finding compact models will be tough unless you can live with Rem 700 SPS.

Single shot and the hammer goes either way.
That fixed a few of my hand requirements.
I am actually RH but left eye dominant.

I have recently been trying out lever actions. Works pretty good so far.

My wife, my son and myself are all left handed. Have never had a problem finding left hand rifles. I have a few that had to be rebarreled to get the cartridge I wanted. Since I was 15 I have never owned a right handed rifle.

I bought my boy a browning Citori micro Midas in a 20 gauge for his lefty shotgun. He loves it. When he outgrows it his sister or mother can shoot it. I also bought a slip on pad with it so it can grow with him for a year or so.
For a rifle I bought an xbolt in .270. It was a bit too big a first but he grew into it over the year. I didn't go with a youth rifle because I wanted something he could use forever and he is a strong kid with longer arms. It worked out for us.
I think if I had it to do over again I would buy a 7-08. Especially with a gun that didn't fit the best the recoil was unexpectedly sharp until he grew into it a bit.
With a girl I would look at a youth model. She won't likely outgrow the gun.
Good luck.

hahaha! Me too! I saw the title of the thread and thought it was about either the provincial Dippers....or the Federal Libtards.
....and I thought to myself before clicking: sympathy??? No such thing for those clowns. Haha.
Much happier to see this is about guns!

Ya me too. 😲
I shoot left.
Never have had a problem running right handed bolts or right handed guns in general. Even in the military the c7s were fine.

Two lefty semi-auto 12 gauges
The Shooting Edge in Calgary (where I'm a member) now has two left hand Fabarm 12 gauge shotguns. Very nice, both of them.
Prices: $1,250 for the L4S, and $1,395 for the XLR Competition. That may seem a tad high, but when you consider good Italian shotguns go for $3500 and way, way, way up, it's worth a look.
Me, I'm a lefty myself, but I've decided to downsize to .410 bore for a time, otherwise I'd buy one myself!

Hey there are a million options now compared to when I was a kid. Then left handed was rare, and caliber selection was quite limited.

Archery equipment is worse....bow, sights, rest....really hard to put together a package from items off a shelf.

Dick284 has a great deal on the buy and sell for a left handed Zastava with Leupold scope and replaceable recoil pads that bring the LOP to 13 3/8". That is about the perfect one gun setup there ever was for any LH hunter. It even has decent wood.

Only problems here is the 06 is to much gun for a little girl, and the price is over my budget.
Budget is something that is very important .Some of us were not born with a silver spoon in our mouth. and with 9 grandkids there is only so much to go around for guns, bows, and fishing.
I have been trying to find this little Stoger Youth 20 SxS . 22" barrels, IC/MOD . Perfect but not available, and it seems that I can't get it brought in.
https://www.stoegerindustries.com/up...-youth-shotgun
Next choice might be the Stoger coach gun in 20 ga . I have the same one in a 410 that I bought 25 years ago at least and it has been trouble free, but it is already slated for another kid.

Reduced loads will make it kick like a 7-08. Without the Leupold scope I am sure it would fit in your price range. Don't know if he is interested in selling with no scope. Have to learn me new Phone him and talk to him about what he would do.

Loading a 30-06 down to a 30-30 just isn't a route I like to go. Much rather go 243 if necessary unless I can find a 7mm08 / 6.5 x 55 /7 x 57 or even a 270 in either youth or a wood stock that I can cut. I have a while to get this sorted out .
It is frustrating trying to buy things when the stores will not order them in.

Do whatever you like but, a 270 kicks like a 30-06 using the same weight bullets at the same velocity. Weight of gun, and a good recoil pad make more of a difference than cartridge.
Loading a 30-06 with a 130 grains Barnes TSX down to 2700 feet per second is a long ways from a 30-30, which slings a 170 grain bullet at 2000 fps, about the performance of a 7-08 and about the kick of a 243. With an 8 LB gun/scope, 130 Barnes at 2700 FPS the 30-06 only produces 10.3 LBs of kick. A full bore load of 243, 100 grain bullet at 3100 fps same weight gun is 10.7 FPS. That said, strictly up to you, just trying to provide some insight based on having done a lot of downloading of popular cartridges when starting of recoil shy gunners in the sport..
