Yet there’s people on here crying that there aren’t enough CO’s out there to cover there areas and catch the bad guys. Wouldn’t his time be better spent patrolling, tax dollars hard at work.

Are you upset he helped a motorist while on the job?

Would you drive by and not help this old man change a tire? I have stopped to help a few motorists, mostly women with tire changes. Even while on the job. Not one boss or contact that I delayed was upset when I told them the reason why.

News headline I would not want to see: Old man dies of a heart attack while trying to change a tire on a busy highway, while hundreds of cars passed him by.

I come from a time when very few would not stop and help. We seem to be going to a time when not only will fewer stop and help but there are those who are critical of those who actually help out.

Good job CO

It's only death, and we all have to go through it. You might as well do it helping someone.

Even for those of us much younger than you guys, who may have grown up 20 years later .......... we all knew enough to have good manners, respect, and, of course to help others.

It may not be about a time, it may be about a household and the parenting and guidance a person gets.

My kids who are growing up now have been taught to do the same and go out of their way to help others.

Ya we'd hate a person in public authority to be a helpful resource for our societies greatest contributors to the coffers: the elderly.

Maybe if a taxpayer had pulled over to help the person first they could've saved us all the couple bucks it cost instead of the outstanding individual that did.

You spend way to much time whining. I suggest Ben and Jerry's and some Aleve. Heard it helps.

I could guarantee that 95% of you (what you'd say tools) wouldn't stop. Why didn't the OP'er stop to help and let the CO get back to his job saving the forest. Don't get me wrong it was awefully nice that he stopped, but my point was that there are people out there that think like that.

Would you stop to relieve an officer from helping the public? It's a tire and the co probably had it handled. Doubt it took more than 10- 15min. Good job CO's

My job duties are not nearly as important as those of a CO, however one day at work moving from one job site to the other on a busy four lane road during rush hour i spotted a scraed young man in a yard and noticed his mother was having a medical emergency, i threw on the hazards and my partner called 911 and her husband after the kid gave us his number , i have never met a more grateful man in my life,we directed traffic and made sure the young child was ok until his father arrived just before the ambulance.

The mother seemed resistant to being helped but the kid knew something was wrong, he begged us to help, we weren't sure what the issue was she seemed ashamed, maybe drug related? Who knows? , we didn't care we just wanted to help.

Maybe we should have just kept driving by like everyone else and just did our job?

Our supervisor had no issue with the use of our company time.

I wish more people would walk the talk.

I recently stopped to assist a lady who was standing beside her vehicle on the side of the highway. It was raining, and she appeared to be quite wet. Not sure what the problem was until I approached and enquired - her vehicle had run out of gas. Drove her to the nearest gas station where she got a jerry can full of gas, then back to her vehicle, where I filled her tank from the jerry can. She was very appreciative of the assistance, and I felt good for being able to help her.

Some months previous, I saw a vehicle on the side of the highway, and a lady standing beside it. The vehicle had a flat tire, and I offered to change it. She politely declined my assistance as she had a tow truck coming, but was thankful that I stopped.

In both cases, it was a busy four lane highway. In both cases I was the only one who stopped to assist.

Like the Fish and Wildlife Officer in the original post, it may not have been his duty to assist, nor did I have an obligation to stop and assist, but it felt good to be able to assist someone in distress. Like ReconWilly did in his post, I am sure that most AO members would stop and assist someone who was in need of help.

How could a thread like this go in a negative direction? Part of a CO's job is relying on the public. Good public relations make people more willing to help out. Be the eye's and ears when CO's are already stretched thin on man power.

Also, who drives by an old guy with a flat tire?

Thanks for sharing a positive encounter, nice to hear for a change.
