Default Peacocks

One of my hens has gone broody.

If you want what she hatches, let me know & I'll let her continue.
If not.....I'm tossing the eggs.

Young would be available this fall.
Gives you time to properly set up for them....they need big housing & aviaries.

Black Shoulder.

Default I caught my wild free ranging black shoulder peacock in Alberta

Neighbor called me many years ago to say one of my big pheasants was sitting on the seat of her tractor in her yard could I come over and catch it. net in hand I arrive to find a black shoulder peacock in the tractor seat.
Caught him and took him to my holding pen. he had 3 toes frozen off (spring) so I put out the call to see who had lost a black shoulder. Ted Braunwarth called and said he lost 2 males the summer before but could not believe one survived the winter in Alberta. kept him for summer trying to get fertile eggs from peahen I had bought at Odd and Unusual and then returned both birds to Ted as he had inside room in his barn for peafowl.
Heard the peacock that survived the winter outdoors died of pneumonia in the barn that winter.

Of all the vehicles he screams at, he seems to hate the school bus the most.

Couple "kids" with loud trucks like to rev their engines on the way by to get him going as well. I grin every time they do it.

Three year ago I let that hen hatch some. One is a male. His sire now is teaching him to voice his opinion of loud vehicles.....and doors closing, loud Ravins, Crows, Magpies......and many other noises.
Good thing I like their calls !

Default I liked having them around just for the novelty

Peacocks and guinea fowl. Just no indoor pens to keep them in our harsh winter. I over wintered about 7 late hatched wild turkeys a couple years ago because I didnt think they would make it through the winter having hatched in late July. found out the hard way that 7 big birds in a pheasant brooder 10 X 8 for almost 8 months was not a lot of fun.

Leaving eggs with a hen this year.
If they do not sell, they'll go into the freezer as meat birds.

Get in touch later this summer...

Stupid power .... heart rate was likely around 200 +, mouth dry, palms sweating......and a huge grin the whole time !

Read someplace they are hunted in CA as well.
People kick them out & down there would do well in the wild.
Two would quickly become many......and perching on roofs will cause damage.

Wife's new Kitten (10 months) is finding out about their flight as well. Charges across the yard & spooks them into flying & squawking
