Angry Please Help Me Out!!

Hi everyone. I am trying to legalize Crossbow hunting here in Newfoundland. We can already use a Bow, so why not a Crossbow??? It is legal in other parts of Canada, but not here. This makes no sense to me.

I have also started a Petition in hopes that we could get enough signatures to present it to the Government of Newfoundland. I would like to get at least
10 000 names on the petition. The more the better!!

You can view the Petition and sign it at:

http://www.petitiononline.com/hunting1/petition.html

Thanks in advance for all your support

Default Danny Williams

If Danny Williams gets his Liberal government we'll be lucky if we can hunt with slingshots anymore.

PS: Good luck with the petition. We can hunt with crossbows here in Alberta. I believe it was just passed a few years ago here.

Do you mean hunt with a crossbow during bow season? Or during general season?

We have an archery season that opens two weeks before the rifle season for big game and then extends throughout the regular rifle season. We do not have archery only season here in NL.

As for the other post, I know it's a buy and sell forum, but what's wrong with posting here to help get support, for what us archery hunters call, a worthwhile cause? Is it against the rules? If so, I will take it off of here.

No, I don't think I'm a moderator. However, there are rules to using this forum. Just because you can't read or spell for that matter is no excuse!

The petition is written by me. That is why it states that "I am an avid hunter here in Newfoundland". It is not stating that you are an hunter here in NL. Why do things have to be so difficult??

I think it should be able to be used by the disabled but further than that...regular rifle season...What is the effective killing range of a cross bow in the hands of a moderatley good shot? same question for that of a Compound bow? Leave the archery seasons for archery equipment...

there is enough competition out there during that season for archers and muzzle loaders...

Keep the Xbow out of archery season.
If you want to shoot Xbows shoot them in the gun season. Learning to shoot a bow is not that hard, and it is the price we pay for having a season for BOWS.

That's what I want, to be able to shoot it during rifle season. I could say that hunting with a weapon that can be used out to 400 plus yards is no challenge, and makes the kill to easy. But that isn't the way it works. I love to hunt with my rifle as well. What's wrong with using a crossbow that limits you to around 40 yards? It makes for a harder hunt and gives the animal more of a chance.

May I introduce you to the longbow or recurve. www.peteward.com look in the trad reviews. I am more than willing to help you out learning to Bow Hunt with Bows.
I limit myself to 30 yards on large animals.

Pete

That's fine if you limit yourself to 30 yards. A lot of experienced people can easily go to 40 plus with a compound bow. I myself never go above 40 yards. Anything over 40 is out of my comfort zone on game. Now give me a paper target and I will go 50 yards easily. Three seasons ago I turned down a 28 point Bull Moose at 44 yards. It was ideal shooting conditions but like I had stated before, it was out of my comfort zone.

I don't know why the Crossbow thing is causing such a fuss. It is a great weapon that provides the hunting community with a different option.

FYI, I have shot two moose, two black bear, and four caribou with a long bow, so we don't need to go there.

I am not trying to be rude here to anyone. I value all of your opinions, everyone has their own view on things and I respect that. I am just stating mine
