"Should animals have the same rights as people?"
A surprisingly well done debate....
Costco is running a poll asking: "Should animals have the same rights as people?"
You can vote at http://www.costcoconnection.com/conn.../200903/?pg=16
Opposing viewpoints are expressed on the site by Matt Prescott, director of corporate affairs for PETA, and David Martosko, director of research for The Center for Consumer Freedom.
Results as of 12:20 PM PST on March 9, 2009
Yes 864 Votes 7.8%
No 10191 Votes 92.2%
Total Votes 11055 Votes

Of course they should...just as soon as my two hounds go out every day and work, bring home paychecks, pay the mortgage and all the related bills, buy me a new shotgun and take me hunting.
Silly survey...I'm really hating the PETA people more each day.
Why is Costco doing this survey anyway?? Just giving PETA any platform to spout their illogical and ill concieved biased rants is a Bad Thing, as weak minded individuals might actually believe the propaganda.

It says, the same rights a humans...
Voting, minimum wage, the right to an attorney if the dog catcher arrests a hound, a fair trial, free speech, property, gay marriage, etc...
Really quite laughable the way they pose the question!

And the voice of uninformed ignorance rears it's ugly head yet again . Just to hear the sound of it's own voice and show how important they are. Gee, shouldn't homosexual child molesters have rights too?

great! now i have another reason to dislike costco!
the idea of buying a licence to spend money in a store is in my mind absurd. this scam makes no sense to me...$1.99 for a 45 gallon drum of mustard!!!..wow that's a good price!! sheesh!

I'm not sure why Costco undertook this, but I certainly wouldn't slag them. Afterall, what is your feeling about the result of this poll? It simply shows how small the rabidly PETA group is. That does a SERVICE to us. Remember, Costco sells MEAT, and I bet their US stores sell guns. Also, you have to admit, the question was pretty biasedly worded. I mean, who but an idiot is going to say animals have the same rights as listed in the Bill or Charter of Rights, etc. I could be very anti-hunting and still have to answer "no" to that question the way it was worded. I don't think that survey or it's results hurt hunting in any way, though I have to admit I didn't read the "discussion".

sometimes you think they should have the same rights, the dog two doors down has more respect for people than most of our teenagers today. I think I may go get my cat a drivers licence so he can drive me home from the bar!

I think if all the companies that bowed to the presure from the cool-aid drinking left wingers, would conduct serveys like this before jumping on the band wagon then far fewer would climb aboard.
I think Costco is seeing how much it really matters the finding will be they will offend and lose far fewer customers buy not buying into the squaking and lies of the left.

Wow whats next, as if we don't have enough problems with the rights some humans have. Think about it we give them the same rights now a dog rips your kid apart. Now the dog has the right to a trial to prove he is criminally responsible for his actions. Of course he is found not responsible because of temperary insanity and now he is set free after serving 2/3rds and a day to rip another kid apart. What a joke. PETA is the most ridiculous bunch of idiots this society has had to endure.

im definetly not a peta douche , but i think there should be laws in place to protect certain types of "highly intelligent " animals. mainly i think of the great apes , elephants . but i think people are getting carried away here. its more of a question of "right to exist" than should a monkey have the right to a fair a just trial. that sounds like a really crappy movie. but then again whats to say any animal deserves protection over another.

yeah... I don't quite know how to capture it, but your thoughts are along the same lines as mine.... Some animals just seem to mean a little more to me than others. No way could I go on a Chimpanzee hunt just to put his hide on a wall. That's just me.... But I think it's why a lot of people have a hard time, for example, with shooting wild horses versus deer. It's why dogs have to be treated better than rats in most people's minds. Of course it's sentimentality, but.....

No!!! I saw a squirrel that looked like it was thinking, soooooo animals should have more rights than PETA!
I also believe animals shoud have rights, also different ones though. Animals should have the right to a quick painless death, and to taste wonderful with seasoning salt and be chewed with a closed mouth because its impolite to chew with your mouth open!!

I just walked out into the field with 400 cows and asked
"Any of you that want equal rights, raise your hoof!"
Not a damn one did, so I guess the answer is no.
Same result when I asked the dog.

I think that all of the earths creatures should pay taxes and work full time (remember the cartoon of the Sheepdogs punching the clock at shift change to guard the flock against Wile E Coyote?).
We could then start charging all kinds of wildlife for jaywalking, the mayhem they create with their utter disregard of universally accepted traffic law is contemptible.
I think we can get most animals drivers licences, but we would have to make sure the more delicious species sign their organ donor part on the back.
You think you've seen some squirrelly drivers on the road?? Just wait until you see an actual squirrell behind the wheel......

So hypothetically speaking…..if in a fit of rage a man’s duck dog lost control and killed that man’s anti hunting wife……with the liberal court system and a decent lawyer…. he would at most get manslaughter….say eight years……convert that to dog years…….one third off for good behavior….. he would be out before opening day.

You forget, the dog would be held in custody before the trial. He gets double credit for that. So, the government ends up either giving the dog money for being in jail to long or releasing it for failing to provide the dog with his fundamental charter rights.
