Default Fast CWD results

Wife shot a Mule buck Monday 4th and dropped the head off in Stettler Tues and today received notification that it is negative. Can't hope for better than that.

That's a lot faster than I had to wait last year!

Well let's hope they keep up with the flow then there will be less whining why it's taking so long.

Any word on if the flow has slowed down or is it still about a 2 week turn around?

My Muley sample was taken to the local wildlife branch on the 8th. I haven’t heard anything back yet. This being Fort Mac though, they may save all samples/heads until the season is done then send them in.

Had three meals already from Wainwright moose shot 02 Dec. No CWD results but I feel 99.9% safe since only one moose has ever tested positive for CWD in AB......and I'm old, so I accept the risk

Crazy fast this year for me as well. Great improvement! Last year, dropped off Nov 14, and got results back Jan 29. This year, dropped off Nov 9, and received the results Dec 5. Both Edmonton drop-offs.

Buddy of mine had a positive mule deer buck in WMU 132 this year, about 10 miles east of Highway 2. It is heading east pretty quickly, can almost guarantee there are positives in the 300 zones now.

Got results back today for one that made it to the freezer around nov 15th. Not too bad compared to last year. Dad had one a week earlier that he hasn’t heard from yet though so still hit or miss.

My experience, the longer it takes the higher the chance of a positive result.

Do you mind being bit more detailed on the location, north/central/south?
Thanks.

Never hunted a cwd zone and don't plan on it. However, those of you who have hunted and shot cwd positive deer, do you disinfect your knives, saws, after you field dress, and or butcher at home? After doing some reading up on this, appears to me that you still could get cwd (even though the Govt says a human can't) from the cross contamination of your butcher tools. Appears there really is no 100% guarantee that disinfection works. SO are we all at risk? At my age I think i will take my chances... since cwd is rapidly spreading.................... and you????????

My buddy got a positive result on his buck from 160 after he had $300 worth of sausage made. Took about a month for his results.

That’s why I just quartered my GF’s deer and froze it. Once I get the results, of negative I’ll thaw, process and refreeze.
