It’s tough out there right now, with the warm weather and no snow on the base. I seen 8 moose, 15 Mulie and Whitetail Doe’s, shot a little Mulie Buck. But on the second day of first rifle. There were 8 moose taken and 10 deer from what I recall. I remember the days where 30 bucks were taken each day. I seen some First Nation hunters have some success, but it’s not like there are cleaning out the herd. I only seen two First Nation hunters take moose, one had a nice whitetail in the back of his truck as well. I left at the end of the day after second day of first rifle. I think the lack of success with the hunting there is weather more then anything right now.

I heard most bull tags are filled. 18 of 20 filled? A buddy shot a bull from a herd of 4 bulls and a cow just after legal light this morning.

Thanks for the update.

Moose being down 20 seems like a pretty big drop but deer are up slightly. It doesnt seem as bad as some have made it out to be.

When in doubt and/or things aren't going your way -- hit the internet to bitch and complain.

It's what keeps forums like this tickin'!

Should be fixed as the 15/16 on WT totals is screwing up the 80, as it should be 81. All's well - just looks weird

I saw their numbers were wrong as well hah... math is hard. Moose should be at 23 for fort rifle season but theyve got 22 written down.

Hunted the first and second day of the rifle hunt

Saw lots of moose and a decent amount of Muley does but the only buck we saw was a small WT

Extremely well organized hunt and all of the hunters i met over the two day were very friendly

Even though my partner and i weren't successful it was an incredibly rewarding experience. It's really fantastic country to explore and almost without fail every time we got out of the truck and hiked we bumped into animals

On the second day we worked little draws of bush by the river and didn't run into a single hunter until after lunch.

I don't understand the complaining. Its a bonus hunt. There is tons of country for all to explore and enjoy

R3illey I have some friends out there for the 2nd rifle hunt (deer only) and they have been in the Annex for the full time (east side) -- very show with no game sightings. I have asked if they could send an update shot of the harvest map. Will see if they remember.

Those critters are going to be holding in the darkest tightest bush out there. We found animals most in the blown down poplars. Terrible stuff to walk through

Sounds like they should try an area other than the annex. Lots of ground to hunt. If they aren’t swing any animals in the annex, try another area.

Question Primary species of deer?

Is there generally more muledeer than whitetail in the wainwright base?

Looks like 18 bull moose harvested by the end of day two rife, does anyone know if this total is only draw tags (18/20) or does it include indigenous/Métis?

I also heard the deer “math” is off because one was stuck and killed by a vehicle on the base...but it died during the hunt so it was added in.
