Sam Gagner for Ryan Spooner. It’s like we just keep recycling.

It doesn’t look great when a team trades for a player they got rid of. When they got rid of Brodziak, they were looking for that exact type of centerman the season after.

With that said though I always liked Gagner’s game. We will see. I’m sure he will make more of an impact than Spooner did..

Agreed that he will likely be better than Spooner, but if he is what we need why was he traded in the first place. I think we are saying the same thing here.

This is what happens when you’ve already traded away any of the value you had and are left with 4th liners and a few “untouchables”. The Oilers have no valuable assets to trade for what they need, save for the few that are league leading and we should likely hang onto.

Been reading some stuff regarding tanking, lottery picks, Jack Hughes, etc.
The guy is predicted to go first overall and there's a bunch of teams who have a good shot at winning the lottery.

Anybody know where Hughes is going to play next year? All I could find is that he might go to Michigan to play with his brother.

Drafting US college players is risky in that they can play their full 4 years and become UFA. There are a few Canadian franchises that are considered less than desirable destinations. The possibility of drafting 1st overall and then failing to sign the player has to be a consideration.

In the upcoming CBA I hope they close this loophole.

Quote:
Players drafted out of college have their rights retained by their drafting teams for four years, after which time – if a deal is not reached – they can become unrestricted free agents. That affords NCAA players a desirable route to choosing the club with which they may start their career – an option not given to young players coming out of major junior hockey.

Plenty of college players have utilized this option in recent years, most notably Pittsburgh Penguins defender Justin Schultz, who walked away from the Anaheim Ducks before signing with the Edmonton Oilers in 2012.

Doesn’t matter what happens with this kid. We all know one superstar doesn’t make a team. Oilers have bigger fish to fry...

Theres just no energy or scrums with this team. They should be banging and have a We don't give a crap attitude. They are not a fun or entertaining team wTch other than McDavid.

Many, many bigger fish to fry.

But, drafting and player development are crucial to team success.
Would a top prospect want to commit to a struggling Canadian team if they have the option of holding out and then being able to chose their destination?
IMO, for many less preferable NHL destinations, he would be a risky player to choose .

Quinn Hughes is rumored to sign with the Canucks as soon as they finish the playoffs this March.

If true...this is the ENTIRE CORE problem inside "the" room. Hitch from day 1 has had the players back and always put on a positive spin on their play. But when those players keep giving him the same crappy results, it's time he kicks their butts.
Oiler brass keep coddling your MILLENNIALS and you will keep getting the same results. I mean Hitch is the 3rd amongst NHL coaches lifetime...What's he know (sic)

………..racing for the #1 draft pick again.

how's it working so far boys?

you know it would be easier to take if they didn't have all those preferential picks over all these past years and still be in the tank. any other team in the league would have made it work by now.

all you remaining spoilers fans must be beside yourselves. what kind of gong show will they think of next?

Really tough spot, they have to continue to tank for the first overall, who really wants to sign anywhere else they could!

Fan attendance is about to dip.

Still room on the wagon, Bessie!

I just saw this.. HOLY CRAP.. I can not believe that was said. Now you have Elliot talking about one of the best coaches in the league being fired?

What say you Oiler fans? If Hitch gets shown the door what is your response? https://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/nhl/...al-done-stone/

Starts around 3:45

Poor Hitch. I can’t believe they are messing with the way a world class coach reaches his guys. Too many cooks in that kitchen.

No real cooks, more like bus boys and dishwashers in that organization.
