Default Heartbroken this morning...

I write this with tears rolling down my face. Saddest day of my life, harder than when any friend or family member has passed...

Our Blue-tick Plott passed away last night...
Best dog I've ever had, was lucky enough to call him family and a friend for 14 years.

He was running and howling yesterday and enjoyed life to the end. He woke us up at 2am (sleeps on his bed in our room) and was breathing heavily. Went down and brought the kids up because we knew something wasn't right and wanted them to say goodbye before I went to the emergency clinic. They had their time with him, said goodbye and I love you, and were tucked back in bed.

We put him at the front door on his bed with the door open so he could get the cool fresh air. I went out, started the truck and came back in.

Shelby was holding his head in her lap, he looked at us, took a deep breath and closed his eyes.... That was it.... It's like he wanted to say goodbye and go on his terms.

I'm going to bury him on our hill, overlooking the farm so he can watch over us as he has for all these years. He's kept bears, cougars and coyotes away and watched over both our kids since they were born.

There's days he's been a royal pain in the ass, and countless days he's been a blessing.

We love you George, you'll always be missed and will always have a place in our hearts.

Don

Wow that brought back a sad memory. You just described exactly how our SPIKE a wonderful springer spaniel passed away. It will take tine to lessen the pain of loosing him. Just focus on the great 14 years of joy he brought you.

I'm so very sorry to hear about your loss. As hard as it is right now, you'll always remember the innumerable ways he added to your life. Hang in there - it gets better!

Best regards,

Jeff

So sorry for your loss, the only thing tougher is losing a human friend or family member.

Very sorry to hear this, big condolences to you and your family from my wife and myself. It does sound like a good way for him to go though, surrounded by the entire family and at home… if that helps at all.

I fell for you and your family,

I have been there and will soon be again, my chocolate lad is now 11 and slowing down.

I lost a german shorthair a few years back after 16 years with him.

it's never easy, as they are family, and give more than they receive.

Lost many of those... It's way harder than any of those have ever been.

It's amazing the profound affect he's obviously had on our lives.

Default Sadness and tears

As I was reading your post, I instantly began crying. I am so soory for your family's loss of your fur member. It hit me hard as I think of my Hunter girl starting to slow down being 14. I am not prepared for this day.

Again I am truly sorry for your loss,

I send hugs to you
Alison

Nothing will prepare you. We've known for a long time that hounds don't live to be 14, but even knowing doesn't prepare you. We have a Redbone and a Dane that are both 11. I'm afraid it's going to be a LONG year. :-(

sorry for your loss.

14 is a great age,

it truly seems like he was saying goodbye, and that will be a comfort.

Very sorry for your loss sir. The consolation being that apparently George didn't suffer. I would be crying like an infant right now.

RIP George. He went on his terms after saying goodbye to his family in his home. I hope we are that fortunate.

Remember the good times.

Deepest sympathy for you, I went through it a year ago and know how much it hurts to lose your friend. Still miss my dog, but we have gotten a couple of new best friends since then and it really helped. TC
