If you like driving, you can look into driving a school bus, or you can check your local car dealerships to see if they need a shuttle driver.

Retail stores are always looking for help, especially people that will work weekends. A couple of buddies work at Home Depot and really like it, so does the one I know that works for Costco, and he is making $24 an hour plus benefits. Many of the security companies are hiring guards lately and Banks are looking for front end staff, most of them are over $22 an hour as well. There is another thread on here today with a guy looking for some help for a couple of days. Also, lots of money is lawn care and snow removal contracts and there seems to be a big shortage of those and home handy men.

Do you have a class 1 or 3? Lots of paving companies can use casual drivers to fill shifts and sick days and such.

Isn’t it time to do what you’ve always wanted?

Sales is great no cost activity. Pick your interest and sell it.
Golf course turf makntence. Not a big payer but love those outdoors. Some cool equipment to play with, and maybe some course credit thrown in.
Hotshot deliveries. My very first gig was driving restraint supplies in Edmonton. I think Amazon has a contractor program.
Online sales. Take inventory of your local resources, negotiating prices that can drive profit.
If you are rural, contract equipment operator.
Last but not least, start a utube channel on growing old with not being sure of what to do. You know that every senior is there at some point. Clicks, advertising, product endorsement.

Sorry things aren’t working out as you hoped. Check out Indeed. Lots of low skilled, mindless opportunities. Don’t discount food delivery. A kid I know makes $100 a shift delivering pizza and most shifts are 5 hours. Gets paid by the delivery and keeps the tips. Good luck in your search!

You lived until your senior years, and didn't manage to acquire any skills along the way?
I always assumed that politicians received a good pension...

Good returns here, if you can get away with it.

This is going to be the plight of many people. Safeway sure does lots of old guys working there now. I did a long retraining with WCB and the guys who “used to make good money” but didn’t have skills was pretty eye opening. I’d hate to be hitting the pavement, good luck to you.

I hear B.C. is looking for people to pick fruit & vegetables, since we're not letting the TFW's back in yet...

Question Do you have a good personality?

Advanced age? Unskilled?
Have you considered getting into politics? Most of them haven't worked a full day in their lives.

Don't worry if your background isn't slimy enough to make the grade. All you need is a few friends that will vouch for your unethical (bordering on criminal) behaviour and you will be a shoe-in for any Liberal or NDP riding association.
The pay isn't half bad and it comes with a full pension after 5 years service.

Personally, not working with the public would be high on my list of job criteria.

What kind of bad luck did you come across? Just wondering if there is some wisdom you can pass on to the younger folks that are trying to plan for retirement.

Wishing you well sir.

Spend Justin's $300 Senior stipend wisely. Mine paid my boat insurance and I had to top it up by 27 bucks from the Frau. Got a letter from a couple of Conservatives running for leader who sent a timely note wanting a cut. Sorry.

I know a few folks in the same position so wishing you the best. Questions -- Do you have any physical limitations like standing for long periods?
The employment you are looking for -- how many hours a week?
Are there any areas that you would not consider? Retail, driving, outside work in the elements

I think about what I would do if I was to semi retire. I have a class 1, so I would probably drive on a casual/fill in basis. I assume there are always people looking for reliable guys they can call to cover days off, sick days ect.

You might not be as unskilled as you think... anyone with some basic skills can do home handyman stuff. Paint a room, trim a door for someone, unclog a sink, clean up a yard, paint a fence. 25 bucks and hour and make sure you keep everything above board, no cash jobs ...make it a real business.
Word will get around with all the little old ladies and you’ll be busy!

I think it's highly unlikely you are unskilled. Many jobs crossover in more ways then people think. Even just the life experience of living to be a senior has certain skills involved that they don't teach in school. What were you doing for the last 50 years? Letting the board know your past work might help someone think of something.

Either way, keep your chin up. The job market is tough in my company right now but some of our layoffs have been contacted for their return.(and some of us flew under the radar) There are lots of guys in your position right now but their are lots of kids not wanting to go back to work because of the "free money"
