I checked it out for an acreage I was looking at, it made generating my own power look cheap.

Fortis Alberta quoted me to run 1.2km (700m above grade and 500m buried) for $28,000. Quote was in 2014. I put in a solar system for $5,000 that meets 90% of my needs (weekend use cabin).

My father in law paid Fortis $8k to run a 200 amp service 150m above ground (3 new poles). They mounted their meter on the last pole then we rented a ditch witch and trenched 225m of direct burial underground cable ourselves. That portion cost just over $2k after cable, panels, breakers, rental etc.

We did this a couple years ago to give you a rough indication of somewhat current pricing.

I’d look at the large category and multiply by what you needed for a rough estimate, but you’d probably be a bit low still

In 2008 it really depended on where you lived. Example could be complete different situation on one side of road than the other even in same MD.
If your building a house with permits in some md they won't let you go off grid. Actually even your driveway has tyo be built like a township road.
It used to be that you added 40% to whatever you thought it was going tyo cost you to build something. Now I would just add 100% to whatever you think your going to build.
Good luck

Is there bush in the way?
That can add some cost.
Are you in an REA?
If you are, get a quote from them, and from the regular utility as well (Atco, or whoever is there)

Just for the record, after You pay for the power line install, then you will get a additional monthly charge for the use of the power line you payed to build.
We All pay on our monthly bill for the power lines most farmer built over the last 50 years.

More so than for actual power.

That acreage was just a dream.

Edit; A friend was given some land in an estate, he has built a house and uses solar cells for his lights. We have talked about back up power that he might need some day, I told him about the Whisper Watt generators that are on most job sites. It sounds like he will go that way when he needs to. They are quiet and cheap to run.
