Layed Off
Well today I found out that i was getting layed off. My boss's ( husband and wife) called my mom while i was at work, they said that they just didn't have the heart to tell me themselves. I guess thats a good thing, BUT, now I need to find somewhere else to work. So if anyone in the Lethbridge/ Fort macleod area has a job for me it would be greatly appreciated. I would prefer to work on a farm, but just run anything by me. And because of school I can only work on weekends and some nights after school. So please, if anyone has a farm or ranch that they need a hand on please PM me or leave a message here. Thanks!

Wow. I find your desire to work impressive. Good on you for developing suchva good work ethic at such a young age. I will keep my eyes and ears open for you for sure. Good luck.
You may want to check out at the research center. They are often looking for barn hands etc.

Thanks for the tip!! Do you happen to know what a barn hand would do for the research center?

I was in the exact situation as you. I'm 18 in my first year of university, and in grade 10 I was working 2 jobs, one with an oilfield equipment manufacturer (Lee Specialties Ltd.) on weekends and days off, and the other was Sportmart. I was working 2 jobs to pay insurance/gas/phone/tags, as well as save money for school. I was laid off from Lee Specialties three weeks after I quit Sportmart. My only advice is to Drop off lots of resumes. Don't be picky with the line of work. I'm not sure about the job market down there, as I'm in Edmonton. Make sure your resume is in top shape. A cover Letter will go a LONG way. When I was applying for security, I heard "I don't remember the last time I saw a cover letter..." more than a few times. Tailor your resume to the position you're applying for. It is a time consuming process, but it will pay off.
I wish you the best of luck, and remember to keep your chin up.
-Jeff

Mostly mucking stalls etc. Not sure of they have anything at all but you never know. I have had a few friends work there in the past and it is a good place to get on with when you are young. It turns into a great summer job that pays pretty well as you get older.

Well, the bright side is that being in grade 9, you probably don't have kids to feed, mortgage to pay, wife to keep happy, parents in a seniors home to look after...all that grown up stuff!! Wanting to have a job and work at your age is very commendable. I got my first job at 13 (grade 8) in a grocery store/bottle depot, stocking shelves, coolers, running till etc. Worked there till I graduated high school. Summers, I worked two jobs, construction in the morning, store at night (for the same family). My best advice to you: Learning to work is excellent. Learning to save and handle the money you make is even more important! That was the hard lesson for me, but I did learn it. You strike me as a responsible young man, I'm sure that if you put in the effort you will find something.
One thing I did when I was 18, and jobs were scare, was approach a construction company foreman. They weren't hiring, but I told him I would work one week for free, right off the books, and if at the end of that week he didn't want to hire me, a handshake and no hard feelings. I got the job, worked there for a good while, and the lazy nephew of the boss was canned the first opportunity (he screwed up a machine bad!)....You could always approach a ranch/farm and try that. Good luck kid!

Most of my money is in my savings account, I really only want 2 more things and I'm set for a long while, a truck, and a kimber 1911. Truck comes first so I can get back and forth to work to pay for the 1911.
I think I might check out WSS ( i know i know....don't light the tourches and man the pitch forks just yet), or possibly go check out the milk farm just outside of town.

Try canadian tire. I am pretty sure they are usually looking for part time and can be pretty flexible with hours. I know my boss's son was working there part time after school and on weekends.

Sorry to hear the news Marlin.
Start contacting all the landscape/tree companies in the area. We all do snow removal and are always looking for a strong back, especially on heavy days. This could probably lead to a good full time summer job as well. Good luck!

There's an alfalfa plant in welling just a few minutes south of Lethbridge, they are always looking for help. Not sure if you are driving yet but an option. Best of luck.

Yes we just hired 20 conductors, however most of the jobs at C.P require grade 12 its to bad cause it sound as if you have a good work ethic. I will keep a look out though.

Try the grocery stores, CT, or any of the hardware stores.
That's where I will be applying in the summer, unless my brother can hook me up!
Good luck buddy!

Well it seems that I will be going back to work at xpress lube, with a few more hours this time. It'll be nice to have a steady cash flow again.
