Riser quad and 5 1/2 foot box
Looking to haul a quad in my 2016 f150..... but i have a 5 1/2 ft box. Any kind of height i should look at on the riser to get the tailgate closed or is that hopeless. Quad size honda foreman 500trx

I have same year of F150 with the same box. IMO, it's hopeless

I use a 12"x12" wood block to stop the quad from hitting the rear window, and leave the tailgate open. 3yrs doing it, so far no issues.

Yup. I would not even consider any other box than a 8 footer.

Sounds to me you should buy your wife a deck for her truck if she wants to haul your quad.

i think your out of luck with 5.5ft box
i have the 6.5ft box 2016 f150 with quad riser and honda trx500,
the riser is flush with the top of the box and my tailgate has less then a cm room to close
sounds like you need a deck or a trailer if you want to keep your tailgate closed

I built a riser for my f150 5.5 box. My front tires are above my frame rails and I still can't close my tailgate. I take my tailgate off to pull my camper.

You have 2 options:
1) Sell your truck and buy one with a real box
Or
2) Sell your quad and buy the one that was meant for the little box
Joking aside, my brother just hauls his with the tailgate down. Not ideal, but it works.

Try one of these. They also make a version that works with your tailgate removed so you don't rock chip the hell out of the tailgate on gravel.
There are lots of options for not a lot of money.
Extended tailgate with replacement so tailgate doesn't get rock chipped.
This one can be set to run behind the tailgate open or in place of the tailgate.

My setup.
The rear tires (27's) of my 07 Grizzly 700 are sitting on top if 6x6 blocks/ramps.
The front is on top of a tool box.
Cant quite close the tailgate but it is strapped up so it wouldn't move.
The tailgate would close if I didn't have a headache rack but rear windows are expensive.
I hook the winch to the top of the headache rack so no chance of going over backward.

I load both my quad and my 4x8 ft walking beam quad trailer together in back of my Dodge Ram with 6 foot box. Have not had problem with rock chips on tail gate in 17 years. However liked the previous dodge with 8 ft box.
