Default Remington 878

Anyone know much about these? Interested in any info on this model and a estimate on value. In quite nice condition. Any experience with them?

Holy jeepers, old school technology for sure!
I think they were discontinued about 1964, they were in between the 58 and the 1100.
I like the 58, and the 1100, both 878's I owned had some issues in the gas system but I was able to fix them.

The 58 was made from 1956 to 1963 and was Remington's first gas operated shotgun, previously they were recoil type like the Browning A5. It was replaced by the 1100 in 1963 and the 1100 is being made to this day. By the 1980s the 1100 was the best selling auto loader in the world. The 878 was supposed to be an upgrade to the 58 and came out in 1959, having a self adjusting gas system. That didn't work well causing lots of jams and failures to feed, thus it was not a very popular gun and it was discontinued in 1963 too. I still have a 58 my father bought new in 1957. A good model 58 is worth maybe $300-400 so an 878 would usually sell for less.

That’s a blast from the past ! If one pulls it apart and looks at it , it is an 870 converted to be semi auto .
