The worst car I ever bought was a Subaru new back in 2001. Horrible piece of junk and warranty covered nothing. Sold it same year I bought it at a $15k loss. You got lucky avoiding that bullet.

Yes and no. When the gyrocopter guys were in (kindersley?) Saskatchewan they used to rebuild the sube's for their machines. The main rebuilder told me they usually found crosshatching and tolerances bang on, but redid them anyway for liability reasons. Before that I ran Toyota with the 20R and 22RE engines so this kind of lifespan is meh to me...

Weird. Had 4 and all and all been great. And absolutely the best car in ugly weather at the times we bought them (that being said, our new one is 16 YO so it may be the competition has caught up)

Salesman was good about it. One of the shop hands they brought out said , "What the F is wrong with this guy?" I laughed and told him to keep pushing.

For some reason SNS2 seems to have issues with vehicles and snow. He had another interesting experience today, but I will leave him to tell the story.

I used a lowered wrx w/uhp summer tires as my hunting rig for a couple years. Then I lifted it and put a/t tires on it for a couple years. Track days, rally drives, hunting rig and daily driver for 7 years. Never once left me stranded and loved every minute behind the wheel.

My f150 is super boring by comparison.

But when you need to get through deep snow or haul, boring is a good thing.

Can't argue against that. Came in real handy when we moved in the summer. Saved us from having to rent a moving truck. No way that was happening with a hatchback lol

Oh man this is funny.
Thanks for sharing!

I don’t know much about vehicles but I think the Subaru reputation is more from the vehicles well in their past.

That 22R has to be one of the most reliable engines in the history of internal combustion engines, right up there with a Cummins 12 valve. Awesome little engine.

Back in high school buddy had an old late '70's or early '80's little Yota pickup with a 22R, the panels would be flapping in the wind from all the rust but that old truck just wouldn't die. It was loud, drafty & uncomfortable but he loved that little truck.

That's crazy funny , specially the part of the dump truck drive looking at you like you were nuts .I would have fell in the snow crying of laughter .

Life is short and being a bit older doesn't mean you can't still be 18 for a few minutes .

Guys can bump it until the cows come home. I still laugh at how it unfolded. Ironically, one member despises the ground I walk on because of this. Seriously. Funny thing is, after he has called me just about every name under the sun, unbeknownst to him, we had a lovely chat on the phone for about 15 minutes shooting the breeze about something he had for sale. I never did end up buying it, but we talked about hunting the Milk River area and all kinds of stuff. We can all take ourselves too seriously, myself included, but life’s too short to get raging mad over anything on a chat room.

Thankfully, there was no damage to the car, and even if there were, they had my credit card to cover it. I guarantee the dealership still laughs about it to this day. Salesman even said they know full well, that guys want to see what their cars can really do.

Lol. That is funny. Type of action you do on rental vehicles. Had a 09 forester manual with no CVT transmission, along with studded Nokian Hakkapalita studded winter tires. That machine was awesome on ice. Drove the little Subaru up to Maxhamish lake (BC) on ice roads. While everyone was driving F350 lifted 4x4. That little unit was fantastic on ice roads. Deep snow not so much, unless you kept throttle pinned.

Gotta post something on the positive side guys, sure, it was the station wagon of yester-year.
The 2023 Subaru Outback Wilderness 2.4 Turbo, has made some strides.
Aprx 2” lifted Wilderness stock with the 245 KO2’s from the stock 225’s. Bronze / Gold KMC rims stand out.

Heck, the wife will drive it, and me on occasion if she lets me.
I still do have my GMC Sierra but this new ride will be the side kick.
