Thumbs up Our friend duceman comes through with an awesome shoot.

I had been looking forward to this for a long time, the 2nd annual Team JW shoot.

Two rifle classes, Hunter and Varmint. Shot on official size big bore silhouette targets - Rams, Pigs, Turkeys and Chickens. Shot in the prone position, bipods and rear bags allowed. 5 shots in target within a 2 minute time limit. Distances were 500, 400 and 300 meters (not yards), so allow an extra 10% for conversion.

The day started early with the wind staying within 10 - 20 kph for the 500 and 400 meter shoots. We broke off for lunch and then the sky started to look nasty out west. The wind picked up to 30 kph, it was time to break off lunch and shoot the 300 meter targets. Not only did it pick up, but it couldn't make up it's mind as to which direction it wanted to blow. Although the range was the closest, the challenge had now become a matter of "bullet steering".

This was likely one of the best shoots in terms of organization that I've ever attended. duceman as I , have attended a few shoots where organizations lacked. He's obviously learned from those mistakes and organized a stellar match. Many thanks and kuddo's to you Lee for taking the time and putting in the effort to make it an awesome day with old and new friends. The food was excellent, the facility without reproach, and being able to cycle flawlessly through so many shooters of both genders....well, I can't say enough about it.

And our own tchardy dude, yeah he ain't just talk....he can shoot as attested by his score and the cash he took home. Great shooting bud.

Thanks a bunch Lee, I look forward to next year, and you can put me down on the list. Oh! and thanks to those that acquired sponsorship from gunshops and other businesses.

Sorry that I had to leave before supper buddy, but I had to go cheer on my grandson in his invitational Lacrosse tournament.

Seriously? I post a thread in guns and ammo about an awesome shoot, and no reply within more than an hour. Only 45 looks. Post something worthlessness in regards to outdoor or shooting topics in general and it gets hits immediately. Post something about Trump and oh! boy it gets hot quickly. The post count of guns and ammo is outdone 3.8 to 1 in favor of general discussion. Pathetic really in terms of an outdoor forum. I can only conclude that this forum sucks the hind t1t and should rename itself the "bitch and whine forum for little girls". Pathetic, absolutely pathetic little whiny bitches that dont' shoot guns, hunt nor have anything outdoors to discuss. Sickening really as to what this forum has become.

Yup, that'll get "their attention" won't it? Simply because it's argumentative rather than instructional.....loosers will chime in, now I'm sure of that.

3....2....1.... and go!

Sounds like a great time. Is this an invite only event? Sounds pretty exclusive.
I've met tchardy before I agree he's the real deal.
No need to get all worked up here. It's Sunday at dinner time.

Great times, congrats again

Wow, sounds like you folks got at it.

Was this a full bore competition.

Questions too ask if you don't mind.

How do we find out about it, and where did it take place.

I'd enjoy viewing something like this as its all about something too do.

As of now, it is a somewhat exclusive. Due mostly to the restrictions of having to manage so many shooters on the line. However, I can see some potential growth. But that is not up to me as I am just happy to be invited. Let's see what the future brings.

And, no I'm not getting worked up. I really couldn't give a rat's arse as to what others think. I see so many so called shooters yak and yak and blabber BS about their shooting abilities. Yet none of them ever show up at a shoot to be judged by their peers on an even level and put their cash on the line. Same goes for the Clive Mohen shoot or the Frank Leffingwell shoot.

In terms of what you mean as "full bore", it means Alberta legal hunting caliber, meaning nothing less than a 6mm bullet. In the varmint class, you have to shoot lesser than 6mm, such as .223.

I'm not familiar with these competitions, what is a big bore silhouette and what does it take to enter?

Yes this was a fun event and boy did you miss a fantastic dinner. The dinner alone was worth the price of admission. I was happy with the way I shot and even happier that I was able to keep my a.d.d in check long enough to get through the 5-6 hour event.

PartTimeHunter...it is a bastardized event of sanctioned events meant to have guys shooting their guns and nailing stuff.

Ok, to start with you need to google "big bore silhouette targets". That will give you an idea of the size of the targets.

Typically, silhouette is shot off your hind legs without support.

In this case, you are shooting legal silhouette targets but from a prone position. Using a bi-pod on the forearm and a rear bag. You don't have to use a rear bag if you choose not to.

Although this is not a sanctioned type of match, it is quite popular with friendly type matches. It is not unusual for legal type silhouette type targets to be used in matches with varied rules, such as off bench, prone, etc.

In the case of this particular match, the rules were spelled out pretty clearly, and if one could not understand them or were confused, well they either were a complete illiterate or a vegetable. In as much as I must say that if you don't understand the rules? ....... WTF are you doing with a firearm in your hands? Could I make that much simpler....hey?

That ain't up to me Don. However, it's a well organized shoot and one geared at learning the wind reading skills and steering your bullets to target.

Scary drones! Oh my! Did anyone get hurt?

Is it a matter of just needing to knowmck over the silhouettes or was there an accuracy component?

And do tell; what did they serve for dinner? I'm imagining a giant pig roast with all the fixins....

Who would have thought that outdoorsmen would not be online during a Sunday afternoon, sucks when the great outdoors gets in the way of being online.

thanks for the kind words yvan!
was a great time for sure, would have been nice if the rain would have stayed away for the campfire after supper, but socializing was top priority inside, great visiting.
my hut buddy eli never misses the mark with his smoker; the pork loins were awesome, as are the hut buns.
special thanks to the sponsors with cash for the meals, and swag for door prizes, was nice that everyone got a gift and all the entry fees went back to the shooters.
two females shooting, and a 10 year old junior, some first timers and a few ringers
also very cool that a few of the winners donated some back for next years shoot.
also special thanks to 243dude and his sweetheart for preparing the chilli and fixins for lunch and supper and serving it up.

I googled it as gitrdun suggested and as near as I can tell it is just a knock down that counts. Though they do stray from the official rules here in that they are shooting prone rather than unsupported standing. How many other deviations in this event from others I don't know.

This is the type of shoot that I would like to participate in as young and old can have an awesome time without the official rules getting in the way. If I were able I would surely work on Lee to get an invite for the next shoot. Something you should be doing for sure!

A couple of friends and I used to have a great time at the Grande Prairie range before it got shortened to 200 yards due to golf courses and houses being built around it. It was way south of town in the tamarack swamp and was very sheltered from the wind which was never a problem when I was there. We even had to stop shooting one time when a moose walked out and stood in front of the turkey's at 400 Meters.

In spite of being told, by a prominent gun shop owner, that a 7mm08 would not knock down the rams, I never missed. We did however shoot from the bench except for one time that I shot "off hand" and decided to quit while I was at 100%.

Kudos to Lee for setting up this event and Yvan for reporting on it. This is what the shooting sports need if we are going to attract young people. If shooting from the bench was an option some of us old cripples may be able to participate as well.

Sounds like an awesome time.I'm sure that since it was Duceman, it was well organized and fun at the same time. I haven't spent much time with Lee but its always been laughs when we do.

Hopefully, if work allows, I'll make a couple of these shoots this year with you gitrdun. My work schedule looks to be a little busy but keep me updated for some of them. I need to find time to develop some rounds as well.

You bet buddy. I'll keep you posted on the Frank Leffingwell shoot and the Clive Mohn shoot as well.

Edit: I just checked my email, and apparently no Clive Mohn shoot this year.
