Old .22 single shot. Project worthy?
I have in my hands for free an old rifle that looks to be in pretty good shape on the outside, the bore had some dust and cobwebs so is soaking as I type.
The only identifying marks are on the barrel:
"SURESHOT CAL .22 S, L, LR"
barrel is about 26" long, iron sights post and notch, birch stock with metal buttplate.
The catch? no bolt. Guy says its around his place somewhere but so far no luck finding it.
So looking for some info and history on these, maybe some oldtimers can comment on accuracy, and where can I find a replacement bolt?
Info on the old googles is pretty thin, maybe made by Cooey for Eaton's or Sears?
Thanks

I would fix this beauty up, clean up real good and search for a bolt, someone will have one or a busted up rifle they will sell you.
Good luck.
Put up a few pics and someone might have something for you, if not the bolt at least some advice and information.

I believe Eaton's catalog sold SureShot .22 RF rifles ( era 60's ) they were of Cooey manufacture

Quick internet search says they were made by Coey for Sears, and one item that says they were made by Coey for the Robert Simpson Co Ltd(?Simpson Sears?) of Toronto and Montreal. Coey bolt may just fit.

Elkdump what's the model number of yours?
If I knew the cooey model it might help searching for a bolt

I believe mine is a Model 39 Cooey Single shot .22 RF , they were hugely popular, and they made tens of thousands of them,
They do NOT have a factory stamped serial number on the metal, , ,none ever did

After you load a round in the chamber, close the bolt, you must cock the bolt for each shot,

together again
A happy ending for the thread. Found a bolt that seems to work well. I'll shoot this old girl until winter and maybe practice my stock refinishing and reblueing technique if I get bored. Something relaxing about shooting a .22 single shot with iron sights- no way to rush things. Super quiet with CCI Quiets.

Nice work there. Careful now, fixing up the old gals is addicting! I had so much fun with the last 5, that today I caved and bought an ugly old German Mauser 98 with a really nice 28" barrel in 6.5X55mm for my next 6 month project/elk slayer

That's a beautiful job! I had one of those as a kid back on the farm. Amazing gun and the old iron sights did fire high and to the right....

Last gun show I went to, someone had a bunch of Cooey bolts, worth a try.
