Default Reloading Press

So want to get into reloading

I shoot the following:
Hunting
- 7mmRemMag
- 243 Win
- 270 win
- .30-.06
Target
- .223/5.56 NATO
- 9mm Lugar
-.40 SW

I shoot for hunting and target shooting -- would never load anything larger than 338 Lapua (which I do not even own presently)

Probably will not begin to develop my own hunting loads until I gain more experience loading for taget

I bought the Hornady Lock and Load classic kit as it was on sale at WS

After buying I am wondering if I should return an get their new Iron Press and then just buy the extra components separably as the iron press does not come as a kit except by special order -- this would add several hunred to the start up price

So I guess my question is - is the iron press better than the classic lock and load?

Relax. That press is up to anything you are gonna feed it.

But to be honest, I feel you are better off with this kit for the press and manual scale which I think you will be happier with than the digital that comes with the Hornady kit.

Prophet River has it even cheaper. They will have it to your door in a day.

To answer your question, yes but not in your situation...

From the looks/sounds of it, if you're reloading for 3-gun type "target" shooting then you may want to look into a Dillion or other turret-style presses.

The Dillon can be setup up to run automatically, it's pretty slick for high-volume home reloading.

Even girls can do it !

Your question is often asked, in one form or another. From my experience when purchasing reloading components, I have found it best to buy individual pieces of the puzzle. Do your home work on the best press and all components you will need to reload. I don't think you will find them in a kit. Good luck with your choices.

LOTS of information and discussion available with an AO search.
Few knowledgeable regulars respond to these repetitive requests,
but may reply to a question posted to a previous thread, as searching and reading displays actual effort and desire to learn.

Default Press

I owned a Dillon for over 25 years. It worked flawless, and if there ever was an issue their customer support was excellent.
I loaded many calibers, .45, and 9 mm
.270, 7mm, 300 Win Mag. .308, 22-250, .243

I cannot comment on the other presses on their positives/ negatives.
Great
