Default Icefishing with flies?

Anyone ever try jigging with a wooly bugger or any other fly through the ice? Any Thoughts?
Just curious is all, I think I will try it this weekend.
Thanks

I use a couple regularly, beadheaded hares ear, beadheaded backswimmer, bloodworms and leaches. They catch their share of fish.

Absolutely. Try using a shrimp pattern for whites. Trout like them too. Micro leeches, san juan worms, chironomids, beadhead any nymph.

And I'm not sure why we stop using wire worms in the summer and why we stop using flyfishing flies in the winter. Seems both should work, depending on what they are eating.

Cheers.

When we ice fish spray we have chunk of smelt on jig, and have a royal coachman tipped with a maggot about 10 to 15 feet from the jig, and have heard some big lakers have been caught that way.....I only to get the smaller sized ones but one day I get it...

Cool

I tied up 4 little beadhead "worms" on size 14 pupa hooks, I left a 1" tail of synthetic kristal flash material . the perch at phillis chase them from a few inches off bottom right up to the ice. they work best imo tied 6"-16" above a small spoon. I hope to try them at gull this winter, maybe get a striped lunker.
