Would dealer network have it in their system?

Default Honda History

Take the serial number to any Honda dealer and they will be able to give you a complete history including if the timing belt was changed. Car Proof I is for physical damage.

It depends on the dealer, most dealers won’t even give you previous meaintence history, due to “privacy reasons.” Some do though, most I have encountered won’t.

Beware that some Honda’s models do not have timing belt, they have chains. Like for example 2003 Accord.... the dealer here tried to offer me the service for about $600 ..... I started to laugh in his face asking if he is serious.

I’d assume it has never been done if the owner doesn’t have proof. A lot of people never change them. Yes, It’s a ticking time-bomb but I know quite a few people who have never got it done.

Plus, there is a good chance if it was done it was done at a private shop and there was no proof other than a receipt for the work performed.

I just did the timing belt in my wife’s Pilot and it showed no signs of wear at 162,000 Kms. So, it didn’t need to be done but I sure feel a lot better now that it is changed. If the water pump is leaking that would cause the belt to deteriorate quicker.

As for price, two private shops wanted $1400-$1600 for the timing belt change out along with the water pump at the same time. I bought the parts through Bumper to Bumper for under $400 so I saved a good $1000 doing it myself. Not an overly difficult job but more than some people would feel comfortable taking on for sure.

Don't forget Carfax is for reported damage/repair. If it was a private repair it wont show up in the report
