Default Shipping a Rifle

Not sure if right section .
Looking at shipping a non restricted rifle to Ontario .
Looking for best way and what I need to do to get it there .
Canada Post has been suggested to me as good way , do I need insurance ? do have to declare it as a firearm when shipping etc etc . Any info tip would be great .
Thanks

Shipping a rifle is no different than say a crockpot...
Put it in a box, make sure there's plenty of packing so it doesn't get damaged.
Take said box to Post Office, put insurance* on it, send it off.
And if it's a factory rifle box, wrap it in paper to conceal it's contents.

* never ship anything worth more than $100 without insurance, regardless who pays for it... It's cheap.

Insurance is not mandatory but a good idea. What is mandatory is Signature Required at the other end. Do NOT declare contents, make sure any indication it is a firearm is removed or well covered.

I have shipped many via CP over many years. Never once had a problem with loss or damage.

Canada post is easy and has improved over the years. I was shipping a rifle once and the gal asked me what was in the box, I simply replied “a sex toy”.
I have shipped dozens more and she never asked me again.

I think with this virus pandemic now they are not doing the signature required. I am not sure how they are handling that then. Hopefully not just dropping on the step.

They won't do signature right now but you do have the choice to specify no door step delivery, post office pickup only if you are worried about it. Shipper has to do it at time of shipping, I just did that 2 days ago.

The insurance isn't part of it. It is a completely separate part of the shipping process and a new thing since the Corvid protocols have been adopted. Only reason I know about it is the lady I deal with all the time told me about it because I asked about them not getting signatures right now.

oh, I realize that Dean, I was just mentioning that this particular person always sends stuff insured.
I had one notice come to me that stated I needed to pick it up at the post office, but I don't recall who it was from.
