Default Sail Boat Gone!

Posted this pic in General, thought members here would be interested in seeing it, too. If you know the fellow who owns this boat he will be in big trouble if he doesn't get it out of the Sylvan Marina soon .... Live cam shot as of 4:30 pm on Oct 16th with -14 to -18C lows in forecast.

Could be either a bank repo not collected yet or the boat is one of those disposables. Like at the airport there are hundreds of cars just left behind in the parking lots.

Probably stolen from somewhere else. Wizard Lake Marina by Calmar had a few new boats stolen in past years.

If it's left it in the marina over the next few days/nights it will be the first ice shack on Sylvan, season is still open here until Oct 30th.

Hey Mr. ..... catch any ?????

Check for a shoveled pathway to the liquor store. Maybe it's his holiday home.

Covered up my boat in the yard Wednesday evening. I was hoping to get it out again...oh well. Looking at the ice auger now... wondering if it might be used early.

I'm guessing though that an annoying November warm up will ruin any ice that forms. Mother nature likes to mess with us.

Snap ... I would agree.

Didn't see it but it looks like the owner finally decided to get his boat out this morning. Or maybe he's gone out fishin, nevertheless .... it's gone.

Sadly, backed mine into the far corner of the garage, opened up the hatches, put on a bunch of bounce sheets, changed the lower oil, and plugged in the on board charger for the winter.

Ran a can and a half of Seafoam last trip to keep the fuel stabilized - just in case we didn't make it out again ...... so ........

She's put to bed.

I brought my boat in to the dealer a couple of weeks ago to take a few toys off - electronics, 9.9 tm, terrova and vhs. My new boat should arrive in the next couple of weeks but I won't be able to try it out until next spring. This will be a long winter of waiting but hopefully it will be worth it.

Nah to rough to go out today as you can see behind the papoose here. It’s been blowing 20 knots all day.

Winter, summer. Only difference is the type of fish to be caught.

Here’s a winter morning

I do remember putting a boat away for winter though and it sucks.

Looks very nice for sure, don't think it would be my cup of tea but definitely neat to see a contrast to the bitter cold that is here and will be here for a while lol.

Boats are put away, balls deep into hunting season and after that bring on the ice!

In that last pic... was that some sort of ice in a can you can spray on warm water?

I do have to agree with you. It's been cold here in Alberta for the past few days and I'm not liking it!!

And it hasn't actually been that cold yet lol.

Not giving up on the season yet.

Put stabilizer in the fuel before last trip.
After that, everything that could hold water has been checked and drained, just in case. Water lines in the boat have antifreeze in them. Everything that gets grease has been greased.

If the weather warms up, the boat is ready to go.
If not, there's just a couple of tasks left to complete the winterizing process.

There's big fish out there, calling my name.

I’ve had my share of cold too. I spent 17 years west of Caroline and 20 more in red deer. Working rigs everywhere from Zama to Taber and all points in between I did plenty of work in the -50’s. I seriously hope I never see that again. A man shouldn’t have to cut through 3’ of ice to go fishing.

I even bought an ice house off David a few years back. My brother uses it now as I’ve got no use for it.
My middle child in the pics above caught his first walleye through the ice in that ice house at the ripe age of 2.

Coil ... yes I recall when you came & picked it up, originally the Jolly Roger was advertised as a trade for a case of beer but the MODs didn't like that. If memory serves, your young guy came with you but was a bit sleepy to check it out closely. Nice to see he's taken up the sport.

Enjoy the warmth & family vacation in the sun.

Cheers

David

Yes he was having a nap that day and that ice house served us well for a couple years.

We moved here so it’s a little more then a vacation but regardless all three kids love fishing, the sun and the ocean.

I can’t say mom and dad don’t like it too though... and it sure beats shovelling snow.

Queensland Australia .... nice.

I would probably bring bigger plastic cups on your next trip to beach.

Enjoy it's -13C here with the wind.

I get my boat winterized at Boat Mart in Red Deer every fall, but I've been holding off, still hoping for another +10 day yet. Losing hope, tho...ha ha. Might have to go get that done on the weekend and then start prepping the ice tent and all the other gear. Could be a really early start to the ice season if this forecast holds. Here in Olds, we don't have a daytime high above freezing over the next 7 days....

I’m wondering the same thing. Haven’t wintered the boat yet, hoping for one more trip. Ugh.........

Hopefully someone can tow it in and get it off the water. I think ice is here to stay.

I'm thinking you might be right. With cold weather forecast for the next while, the ice has an opportunity to build up enough that it's not gonna melt until spring.

Was looking forward to a couple more trips.

Pull the boat out. Take it to the RCMP storage lot and report found lost boat and state in writing if the owner is not found that you will claim it.
