Default Annoying Little Squeak..

A few months back I purchased a 2000 Jimmy...off and on there has been this annoying squeak coming from the back hatchback area. I have WD'd ever joint, spring and nut & bolt and hinge that I could find but it still seems to come back...
Any suggestions on where it may actually be coming from?? It is definitely in that rear hatch?
Thanks for all suggestions...

Loose spare tire or jack, or the styrofoam insert, etc?

It could be the jack...I was kind of thinking of that ...it's mounted on the rear driver's side...the spare tire is mounted underneath the jimmy...and come to think of it, it has never been used by looking at it, so I'd better look at that one of these days...

I had the exact same squeak in one of my GM's. I think the squeak comes from Detroit.

seriously though, I had the exact same squeak in my passenger door. It was coming from the rubber door seals. GM makes a silicone grease for the seals. I tried using armorall, which has silicone in it and it would help for a week or two. Sold the truck, before I got around to trying the silcone stuff GM makes.

So you think the silicone spray is any better than the stuff you can pick-up at NAPA Other than the price being marked up 100%, and a nice blue GM label, silicone spray is silicone spray. Op, try adjusting the rear hatch latch.

Just looked it up on the interweb. gm silicone GREASE part no. 10131290.

I'm guessing any silicone grease will do the same thing. I used the armorall spray on a papertowel and rubbed it on the seals, and it worked right away, for a while anyway.

Check your rear tire carrier rubber where it locks into place.Wrap hockey tape around it.If it's not that it's the window latch.

If the squeak is in the interior, find a road or parking lot where it's safe and have someone drive you around while you sit in the back and push and pull things to try and narrow down what the cause of the squeak is.

I'm not telling you to do this, just pointing out an option. Safety first!

Cool

if its got the flip up back window, the latch wears over time and will drive you nuts. a few wraps of sparky majic (electrical tape) on the window side of the latch. honest go look now.

Just double check that the rear glass is fitting tight where it latches to the rear door. It can give a very annoying squeak. I guess the way to really test this, is to leave the glass open for a lil test drive and see if the squeak goes away. Then go from there.

X2 my brothers jimmy had this issue and he e-taped the latch. Made it thicker so it is tighter in thr latch and it seemed to help the issue

Check to make sure there is no plastic rubbing against the hatch, that was what mine was doing, the plastic from the door was loose and was rubbing on the plastic against the side

What a great design.

I had a Jimmy with the undermount spare.

The first time I had a flat was on a half frozen muddy bush road. After sloppin' to get underneath the vehicle, I then had to break off the rusted bolt securing the spare.

The next time I had a flat, I simply enscrewed the unrusted nut to release the spare from the tailgate rack.

Ya, I have a feeling that I should be loosening the nut off of it...well, considering, I don't think it's ever been off in case of needing it some time, and my luck being as it has lately, I would probably be in the same kind of situation...Thanks WB

Cool

yeppers, tape lasts abt a week. the best solution I have found so far is a 1"× 1/2" slice of milk jug with a slit at each end . slip the plastic onto the receiver allowing the slits to hold it in place. drop of super glue ,done deal. glad to help.
