"Cast" on a stock

Pretty common on old classic shotguns, not often you see a composite rifle stock cast off, kinda cool but it is cast the wrong way for me.

Actually, I think it is "left hand cast off" as opposed to "right hand cast off"!
If it were "cast on", it would be angled the other way - to the right...

It is indeed cast on. There is cast off and on regardless of the cheek piece's location.

what is the pic of ?? I looks like a stock but what did you do to it?

Used a torch to warm it up, put in a vice and bent it
The centerline of the stock is 'off'. To fit the shooter better. Some of my guns have this, and they feel nicer to shoot than straight back.

Cast refers to the offset in relation to the shooter's shoulder, Chuck.
this one is a left hander, so the cast would be off, not on.

I know it doesn't make sense cat but the cast is on. If you don't believe me call Roger Biesen, Jerry Fisher, Gene Silillion, D'Arcy Echols, Curt Crum, Ralph Martini...............

I say it's cast off

With cast-off, the center of the butt is moved in the direction of the shoulder of the shooter

cast-on is the butt deviating toward the center of the shooter's chest

Next time post the picture in the right orientation so you don't have to flip it in your mind

With my thinking, a cast off shotgun for a left hand shooter would be a cast on shotgun for a right hand shooter.

Puzzling things... Chuck after doing some more browsing due to my memory being rusty I found some websites saying that it is in relation to a shooters shoulder and others saying its either on or off.

If it were in relation to a shooters shoulder though, the cast would change depending on whether you decide to shoot right or left which doesn't make sense.

I tend to agree now with the link you posted.

It definitely makes more logical sense to call it cast off. But what does sense have to do with it?
