Default What fishing trips do you have planned or want to do this year?

What kind of fishing trips do you have planned or want to do this year? I am hopefully going after some Tiger trout and Goldens. Just trying to narrow down where exactly. I am looking to do lots of hike in trips to lakes and rivers. All I do is flyfish.

Smile Florida Keys!

I've wanted to go for a VERY long time. We get off a cruise and have a few days before returning to the true north. We will be wetting a line while we wait for the flight home. I'll let you know how we make out. Herself has never fly fished before so I'm hoping she likes it.

I am hoping to get out for bass a few times to change things up again this year.

I am also hoping my back is all healed up so I can make the hike into barnaby with a few guys.

Another trip is to head to sask to target some tiger trout with the fly rod.

Last but not least is hopefully getting a drift boat build with Eric(Guitarplayingfish) and floating the maiden voyage down one of the southern alberta rivers.

2. Lake des iles. Great family lake and hopefully the fishing is good.
3. Forestry trunk road trip from waiporous to hinton. camp ever 100km or so.
4. And of course the family cabin at sturgeon lake a few times.

Almost forgot I'll be in mexico for 7 days as well!

Hey Darter,

What part of the columbia do you fish? Also can you launch any normal walleye boat in there or would you need a jet boat?

I have wanted to head into bc for a few years now to the columbia and go hunt some eyes but haven't gotten around to it yet.

Tri Cities to Dalles
no need for a jet
B.C. side isnt nearly as good for 10lb+ eyes imo

2. Return to Barnaby Lake for goldens
3. Hike back into Lake X for big brookies

Most definately, both of these again, we should overnight lake X though.
And Barnaby forsure again.

I will be in Terrace for the beginning of July and hitting the Skeena and other tribs swinging flies for Chinook, Pinks and Chum.

Gonna be a fun time

Nope you're right. Castlegar to Trail is better for 12+ eyes and 5 - 10 lb rainbows on the fly.

your a better fisherman than me....ive spent hundreds of days on the columbia between Brilliant and Waneta and my best eye was 11lbs. Lots of big bows , kokanee , bulls and sturgeon but no trophy walleye.
The lower columbia imo has bigger average and bigger walleye imo.....all my 15lb+ eyes have come from the Tri-cities to Dalles area

There you go... I never caught an eye near 15 lbs. But "back home" in the Kootenays we never really fished for them. To this day they are not a popular gamefish out there. However, if you fish heavy for big eyes, chances are good you might hook a 8+ foot sturgeon. Landing it is a lifetime achievement. Us doukhabours only go to Brilliant for funerals these days. Too many lakes to choose from.

Looks like a trip may have to be in the works for eyes on the columbia around the trail area.

Does anyone know if my little 16.5' alumacraft single console with a 40hp motor will do the trick or am I underpowered for the currents around there.

This could make for a solid week long holiday with the wife this summer. Also any other info on this area and what time of year is best to get eyes in the area is greatly appreciated.

you'll be fine Nate the river has navigation signs .....beaver creek camp ground is a good spot
i might not suggest the whirl pools below the old A@W in Trail.
Its pretty big water but with common sense you'll be okay.
there is another crude launch between Fort Shepard eddy(down from Beaver Creek) and Waneta(where the pend-orielle river meets the Columbia) just before the Border.

Sounds good Darter,

I will see if the wife wants to head out there around thanksgiving. She pretty much makes any kind of family holidays a must for her to attend but knows that I fish whenever possible and has really no problems with it.

My buddy and SAWT partner may be interested in checking out the eye action on the columbia. We have talked about it a few times and have both wanted to check it out. He doesn't chuck flies so while we are doing that he will chuck gear probably.

Im taking the jetboat out to the Fraser River for those big sturgen. Although the S.S.R. has been good sturgen fishing the last couple years, I would like to beat my personal best of 5ft. I cant wait for open water.

One trip to the kelowna area. My wife thinks its for her family re-union, i'll just let her keep thinking that.

Hopefully get down in early september again for a road trip to the coast. Fly fish all the creeks i can on the way down, and then fly for 20lb springs and coho in the ocean. After limiting out we'll be into the rivers and lakes for 10-15 cutthroats on the fly, and maybe troll for some 20+ rainbows.
