Default Winefred Lake

I was wondering if anyone has been to Winefred Lake lately? I haven't been up there in 15 years and have been thinking about a trip up there? All I can remember is that there used to be some monsters in that lake.

I haven’t been there for 5 years now but we made a annual trip into Winefred for several successive years. Keep limit was changed a number of years back to 0 for Walleye and I believe 2 for Pike (1 under and 1 over). Concern is there are not very many Walleye of a young age class in the lake. I can attest to that as the quantity of fish we caught was average at best, however the quality of fish caught was very good. 99% of the Walleye we caught were north of 3lbs.

Never tried ice fishing Winefred although would love to one day.

Been there a couple times in the past few years. Lots of big walleye and a good population of pike in that 10-12 pound range.

I made a trip up there this past summer, and was impressed so much a that I will be back up there this summer.
We caught lots of big fish there. A ton of 4-6 pound walleye and many 10 pound pike. Of course we caught lots bigger than that too. As to another posters comments, we did find lots of young walleye. So hopefully the future population will be as good as it is now.

There are guys from here that go all the time but I never have. I would like to go, but wow that is a long drive to catch my first walleye and not be able to eat it.

Flamesuit on, but when I finally catch one I am going to eat it.

I am heading up there with a good group of guys at the very end of May this year. None of us have been there before and would love to have a good trip. Since it's not a Lake X anyone have any pointers?

The big Len Thompson Five of Diamonds was absolutely the best for pike and surprisingly a lot of walleye too. Pretty well any crankbait was deadly on walleye and we did really good with the big Storm plastics and also a Walleye Flasher jig and yellow rubber tail. Caught several big pike on a Swim Whizz as well. Lots of big walleye right on the weend edge year round and any of the humps that come up to 10 feet or less are deadly. We lost count of the number of 28-29" walleye we caught. Never cracked the 30" mark though.
