Chinchaga river
Just throwing this out there. Has anyone on here ever float the Chinchaga river this time of year? Just wondering how deep the river is? I know it can change depending on rainfall. But just in general. Drew a calling moose tag this year in 524 and we are tossing in the idea. Thanks in Advance.

We tried approx 8yrs ago. I dont recall it being an overly dry or wet year and we had a tough time. Definitely more pushing than floating.
We did see a fair amount of moose sign though.

Current Anecdotal Update
Spoke to 3 gentlemen on Saturday evening that were heading home with a boatload of Bullwinkle. They spent the previous 5 days running the Chinchaga River, said it was running deep and the terrain was saturated.

Dont take a new boat. Make sure it's also easy to drag.

Chainsaw and a gas powered winch would also help. The river can be floated but canoes are better than tinners and there are places you will have to clear and or drag.
It is REALLY wet up there right now so if it doesn't freeze or dry getting around on the cutlines is going to be real tough as are a lot of the back roads.

Thanks for the replies
All good info fellows. Keeper coming.
Been down the Chinchaga haul road 3 times. Always been late November hunts. Looking forward to this early calling season.

Chin goes north to the Hay, east of Assumption reserve. Just stay in sight of your gear if you are in that country, as it tends to grow legs and head off into the bush never to be seen again by you!!! Great walleye fishing at the juncture of the Chin & Hay. We used to helicopter there when I lived in High Level.

Best be doing some in depth research if your planning a float but don't know what direction the river flows.. (sorry had to.. )
Not a whole lot of exit points between there and the bridge by assumption should an emergency arise. Would love to do that float myself.!

Lol. Ok Dad.
Yah I figured it flowed north but I thought someone posted south lately.
Yah we will figure it out I'm sure. I don't think it's flowing very fast so not too worried. Haha.
More concerned wether there's enough water to actually float it.

I'd think it's higher this year than in the past so much wetter this year
But that could change by the end of this month
Big Bulls up there
