Default New to hunting

I am new to hunting as of last year, for both birds and big game. I did get my first deer last November up in Waiparous area. Id love to not hunt in such a well used area, instead find something less travelled.

When searching/seeking permission to hunt land what are some good does and don'ts?

Is there areas that are better to try? ex. South of Calgary? NE? Hutterite farms?

thanks everyone!

Do try and meet landowners face to face.
Do present yourself respectfully.
Do be polite no matter the response and attitude of the landowner.
Do ask where you can access the property / park your vehicle / walk / hunt.
Do ask if there is anything else they would like you to do while accessing their property: report fence damage, close gates, shoot coyotes, not shoot coyotes, stay away from an area, remove gut piles from fields, etc.
Do let landowners know that you truly appreciate the access they have provided.

Don't be a douche.
Don't be disrespectful.
Don't get mouthy if a landowner gives you attitude or says no.
Don't ask for access "can I hunt here?" and then show up with 3 buddies to hunt.
Don't drive when you've been asked NOT to drive.
Don't leave rubber gloves and plastic bags at a kill site - pack it out.
Don't assume anything - ask; if you're not 100% clear, ASK AGAIN.

Remember the landowner is doing you a favor if he grants permission.
Don't show up in a loud, jacked up vehicle.
If you aren't driving your hunting vehicle, tell the landowner what you will be driving when you come to hunt.
If you are granted access, it doesn't give to the right to invite other people along.
If a landowner gives conditions, such as not to shoot a specific animal, respect the landowner's conditions.
If you are granted access for this year, ask again next season.

Good suggestions, don't get too frustrated when denied acces, maybe seek crown land, ducks unlimited land etc

Good luck and welcome to the funny farm...
