Default Very confused- Big Lake

Hello everyone,

I am just curious if Big lake which is in WMU 248 ( near Acheson) is even allowed to be shot on? I live right on the lake and keep hearing shotguns going off all day so I assume they are shooting ducks or even geese, BUT the lake and area are bird sanctuary so what gives?

I wasn't able to find anything except for it being a designated hunting area a while back from Ducks Unlimited.

Any help is always greatly appreciated.

Used to hunt that lake religiously as a kid with my father. Lake was dedicated bird sanctuary and now no hunting. The are still a lot of field shoots in and around the lake on private land as there was back then and that's probably the shots your hearing. Too bad was would have loved to hunt that with my boys now! Was a diamond in the rough for waterfowlers. Nothing like a canoe in the weeds over a set of decoys.

Thumbs up What gives...

Hunters set up on fields to catch the birds in transition from feed to water.
Decoy them in and then take'em

Default lake

I believe there is a ducks unlimited area in 1 section of the lake there that people are allowed to shoot at.

I read here that the last time they had land there was in 2011 that you could shoot on. Don't know how accurate that is but I have a contract with DU so I can sneak into their office at night and play with the paperwork 😉
